ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Caribbean Insurers Ltd. (CIL) yesterday October 30, 2014 made a donation of $10,000 towards the completion of the new Peebles Hospital.

The funds were a combination of proceeds collected at the Soap Box Derby held on October 19, 2014 at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) in Paraquita Bay, Tortola, and a matching donation by the insurance company.

The handing over took place in the reception area of the new hospital in the presence of CIL officials and those of the BVI Health Services Authority.

“On behalf of Caribbean Insurers Ltd.’s management and staff we would like to say thank you for allowing us to make this donation today. We know that the cause is needed, we know that there is a lot of infrastructure and we know that there is a lot of work still left to be done and this is just a small part of us being able to say thank you,” said CIL Director Jackie Malone, speaking briefly to this news site.

Speaking also to this news site, CIL Director Simone T. Monsanto said that the company will be doing other events with the aim of raising funds for the hospital project. But she said that these will be done early next year. “I want everyone to know that we are going to do this as an annual event so get your soap box prepared for the next event and we expect the public to come out in support,” said Monsanto.

Representing the BVI Motor Sports Association (BMSA) Alexis N. Thomas said, “on behalf of the BVI Motor Sports Association we would just like to say thank you to Caribbean Insurers Ltd. for allowing us to partner with them in this community-minded venture.”

Darlene Carty-Baptiste, Chief Executive Officer of the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA), speaking to this news site, said, “This was just a unique opportunity…we jumped in and we really embraced it. We looked forward to working with you on this partnership in the past and we look forward again. It is an effort and it takes all of us.”

CIL thanked the other sponsors who made the event possible, including Island Heritage Insurance, Caribbean Alliance Insurance Company, CCT, Tortola Concrete, Burke’s Garage, Scotiabank, First Bank, and Tortola Contractor Stores. In terms of the sponsors for soap boxes, CIL extended thanks to Honourable Myron V. Walwyn, Minister for Education and Culture, STO Enterprise Ltd. EMSC Caribbean, Rajah A. Smith and the BMSA for teaming up with them on the soap box derby.

Have you visited the site of the new Hospital? In comparison to the present Peebles Hospital the set up, layout and intended running of the new Hospital is 1000000% BETTER! In order to make these improvements this costs money. Yes the government build the hospital and contributed to purchasing to most of the critical equipment. BUT there are still other sections to be completed and smaller equipment that is needed. I find that most people in the BVI can only criticize and never have a suggestion to solve the problem. As for me I can not give $10,000 but whatever I can give I will because God forbid one day I or someone in my family might need care in that same Hospital and whatever I can do to make that time no matter how short or long comfortable I will. I guess you will never ever need to go there?

I encourage the public we all need the Hospital Service sometime, please take a tour and leave a donation.

Government NDP PEP OR VIP alone cannot complete this all of us have to help. Its a state of the Facility better than PAvia or any hospital in the Caribbean.

100 million dollars and counting and 100 beds and no one make jail yet. Only in the BVI

Check and see who benefited the most from the Hospital construction.... follow the money

We need a proper investigation of this national shame
