Christianity got us mash up'- Caller to Umoja show

- Christian religion comes under heavy criticism on radio show
Host of the Umoja radio show, Mr Cromwell Smith, said I know that it’s very difficult for us to believe that things that we've been told for hundreds of years are actually not true and that’s a very difficult pill to swallow. Photo:VINO/File
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – While one caller on the Umoja radio show was insistent that persons in the Virgin Islands needed to repent and to ask God’s forgiveness to clear the minds of our children, another caller had a different perspective altogether.

On the show, which was aired last evening, February 14, 2013 and hosted by Mr Cromwell Smith aka Edju En Ka, the host reflected on issues that related to African History and discussed these as they related to modern day descendants of African slaves. He also read several excerpts from the book, Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome by Dr Joy DeGruy.

The first caller, a female, expressed that persons needed to be ‘still with God’ while adding that this would prevent all the false religions from entering the Virgin Islands and deterring the minds of the Territory’s children from worshipping the one true God.

A male caller on the other hand felt that, “Christianity is our enemy” noting that it [Christianity] is the enemy of humanity. “Christianity,” he said, “was indebted to us [black persons] for the benefit of civilization.” The caller further expressed that the Christian religion doesn't ‘count’.

He further stated that certain things needed to be said and persons were afraid to say these things because we live in a Christian community. “Christianity got us mash up, Christianity is the enemy of the people,” he repeated, “…until we abort that thing, get it off of us, we will never come together.”

Host Cromwell Smith expressed that if persons were to study the history of Christianity, and study the Bible and Jesus the Messiah, they would get a full understanding of what the caller meant.

According to Mr Smith, people tend to “accept blindly” things that have been told to us. He added that a lot of things were accepted because it’s in a book, or on television, or in the newspapers and we don’t do research for ourselves and investigate.

“I know that it’s very difficult for us to believe that things that we've been told for hundreds of years are actually not true and that’s a very difficult pill to swallow,” he expressed.

Too many call themselves Christians and do not practice what they preach. They quick to call out sin on other people and turn right round and do the same thing. It ok once you go church every Sunday or stand in front a pulpit.

Wolves in sheep clothing that's what they are. Prey on the vulnerable and before they know it they're believing everything the so-called self-professed Christians tell them about themselves. It's a lot of mind games.

Christianity and other religion, has divided this world for a millennia through fear tactics and ignorance. Indoctrination is 95% percent of all religious devotion in my opinion; you’re taught from a young age what to believe in; who to believe in and to reject or be indifferent to anything that is outside the bounds of what has been preordained to be truth in our land. When life’s adversities set in as they do in EVERY SINGLE CASE, one gravitates to the ideals they were spoon fed with. As simple as that sounds it is an almost inescapable illusion for the typical human mind. I cannot refute that the need to feel as if you’re a part of some grand design, to feel that we are created with purpose, that there is more to this miserable existence than meets the eye is innate to the human condition. But until God, shows his face and articulates his will to the entire human race (Not one person in private, or one sect), such that it transcends all nationalities, all language barriers, all ignorance, all geographical limitations, then we are all doomed to be subject to religious philosophies that divide us instead of bringing us together.

Religion is a scary thing. Many are religious but LOST. Religion is man made. So instead of blogging about people being religious we should be asking why is dis bvi not God fearing?

Well while indeed it may be "a very difficult pill to swallow", everyone is still entitled to FREE WILL. So you embrace your belief while I shall embrace mine. The question is WHAT or WHO do you believe in???
    • tretretrete (15/02/2013, 14:13) Like (5) Dislike (2) Reply
Sadly, your idea of free will has held humanity hostage for ages, ever since there has been the philosophy of one God; your people have pioneered the destruction and alienation of every creed whose interpretation of the truth differs from your own. People only have free will in your society if they submit somewhat or wholeheartedly to the ideals set out as moral guidelines in your doctrine. Let me see a two same sexed individuals who wish to be married in church succeed, let me see someone of a different religion succeed in marrying a Christian and I will concede to your idea of free will. Until then at least have the testicular fortitude to admit that we are all held captive at the whim of your belief….free will has been an illusion ever since the slave masters whipped or ability to embrace our own culture out of us.

religion can be over tranquilizing to the poor? Instead of addressing poverty by deeds, it appears that too many turn to prayer -- like solving your finances through buying lottery tickets

BVI christian community what a joke! What is christianity to be christ like who was christ what did he accept and stand for, what did he teach. The population of the BVI is about 36000 of which majority of the people claim to be christians or from christian homes if this were true the bvi would not be the way it is today point blank. The acceptance of wrong, corruption, bars, clubs, whore houses including children being sold for sex by parents, homosexuality, etc. which are all things of the devil are not things that he Jesus would put up with or accept yet in a so call christian community these are accepted. I say accepted because no one or church is really coming out and calling a spade a spade some people doing these things are actually in church every weekend Saturday and Sunday, You are fooling no one but yourselves and in the end you would be the loosers. The children are following the examples set by the leaders, parents and elders in society hence what we are seeing from them is the coming to light of what is being done in the dark. If we truely take the time out to study what being like christ is and put it into practice instead of just jumpin up in church and listening to preachers brain wash us and stealing our money to be driving fancy expensive cars and live in fancy houses and passing suffering people everyday and not really truely careing, we could save ourselves our children and our society. Its not to late the devil wants us to believe that it is but its not. LIFE is real knowledge is power if you dont know the pass how can you have a future. If you are wondering if i am a christian i am not but i do follow the christ and all messengers sent by the MOST HIGH. PEACE

      1. What is the mathematical possibility of evolution?

      2. If evolution is mathematically impossible, then which of the 3 great doctrines (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) is most likely to be true? (hint: rule out the two that promote division and violence... even today, and the one that remains will represent the truth).

Mr. Smith you could not have said it any better when you said, "people tend to “accept blindly” things that have been told to us.

You are so right. There is a handful of people all over the world that knows the truth. But no need to worry because everything will unfold. It has already began and Christianity and Religion is going down. That is a FACT!!

More fear tactics, reality is starting to take hold and people are seeing more and more that we must be complicit in our own salvation not waiting for some magic being in the sky to come wave a wond and save us all...and that scares you to think that you have to help yourself and help those around you, for too long have we seen our brother fallen by the road side and offered a prayer instead of a hand.

The people who reproduced the bible and misconstrued it's texts to control those who blindly follow knew that this will all be happening as people begin to wake up! So of course the bible will speak of the times where people rise against christians and this and that. What is happening now has happened SEVERAL times before to past civilizations. People get smarter, they realize all the bull they been told, they turn on the oppressors and liers then they get destroyed and the whole process starts again as ego tends to fill the hearts of the weak.

What is going on here? Are there so many people against Christianity in the BVI? wow! I don't even want to quote a scripture cause what will that be to you? But more so, my piece is about my own experiences. I've seen and experienced things that even without the bible I can say for sure that Jesus is real. One night I was feeling numbness in both my legs. It was late and I was scared so right on my bunk bed I prayed and cried desperately calling on the name of Jesus (cause I had heard that there is power in his name), did you know that the numbness left me?
Also, I've felt the sense that He was talking to me on many occasions and when I gave in to the directions it turned out to be the right choice and when I didn't give in it turned out to be something that I've regretted. It's true! He is real. I know the leading that I've gotten from a true God who knows what is to happen in the future and directs His children accordingly.

There are millions of similar experiences had by people in inexplicable situations, some cried out for Jesus but are now no longer with us even though they did (succumbed to their ailment), some cried out for Allah and "miraculously had their prayers answered", some called on Jehovah, some called on Buddha, Vishnu....etc. I can almost guarantee the correlation between those whose suffering has eluded them and who've perished has nothing to do with their religious ideals....The power of suggestion and indoctrination though is so powerful that you think it was Jesus; because even if you didn’t know the Bible, you were brought up in a society where it is believed that whatever good comes from an experience in this life it is Jesus behind it, not Allah, not Jehovah not Selasie...This is how all religion works, people testify to some occurrence in life, superimpose their belief unto their reality and being that God is always silent and the people you surround yourself with are mindless followers to the same tune, all is well in your religious world. Some Jewish, or Hindu, or Muslim or none Trinitarian Christian sect has a devout follower somewhere in the world right this minute who has overcome some adversity 100 times worst than your whilst calling out the name they attribute to their God same as you whilst receiving the same blessings you claim can only be received in Jesus’ name. It is there that reality refutes your claim my friend…and I’m sure that all you can say to that is your God works in mysterious ways, which should be your motto if you hope to truly circumvent logic with this drivel!!

It's amazing that these same people who are complaining and saying that there is no God and this and that are the same ones who when they get into trouble are saying 'O God' or 'Jesus'. I know that God has come through for all of you all and you fail to acknowlege Him. May God have mercy upon you all! Matthew 24:44 - Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
