'Checkmate' by Bella Rose

The game of chess has begun,

Leaving everyone in a panic and feeling stunned

The “King” is in Play,

Eyes waiting to see who will Checkmate on Election Day

So many players, with their own agenda

Sitting in all their glory and splendor;

Trustworthiness, Integrity, Honesty – the buzz words they say

The wool pulled over our eyes day by day;

We see Leadership as a vision for molding consensus,

Not one that searches for consensus;

Players fighting to steal the king’s chair,

Yet why is the game being played so unfair

The BVI and its interest is a pawn on the Chess Board,

A battle never before seen has been forged;

All eyes wait anxiously for the game to end,

As the final check on the ballot sheet is penned

All the players in the game all form a new alliance

May God be in the midst, as our country’s future lies in the balance,

Putting the needs of the BVI before their own

Ensuring that our beautiful BVI will remain our own, flourish and not be doomed

As the Sun rises and set on Election Day, and the bell is toll

The fate of our Virgin Islands will be told.
