ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Three boys who have been involved with the BVI Football Association (BVIFA) Youth Programmes for over 5 years each have been selected to take part in an exclusive training camp with English Premier League side Bournemouth AFC.

The trio, Luka Chalwell, who is already away in England at another Camp, Ryan Lettsome and Azarni Callwood were all chosen by the coaches at the recent Champion Sports Soccer Camp held at the new venue in East End/Long Look.

The camp starts on August 21, 2017 and follows the U15 Team playing in the CONCACAF Championship in Florida.

“It is a very exciting development for us,” said BVIFA President Andy Bickerton, “And a very important step in building a relationship with Bournemouth. We hope they can give a good showing and then lead to more and more players following in their footstep. Bournemouth is a small up and coming club and is an ideal match, with their focus on youth development.”

As part of the BVIFA’s Player Pathway Dream it is a very positive step and as 2nd Vice President Avanell Morton noted, “it is a great opportunity. I know they will do us proud and with the support of the public shows what can be achieved.”

Players react

Azarni Callwood, who has been involved with BVIFA Programmes since a five-year-old, said he had worked very hard to achieve this chance and Lettsome added that it was a fantastic opportunity to add to his experience and improve as a player.

Meanwhile, Chalwell has been finding the net for the Champion Sport Group, in the Southampton International Cup, scoring against Southampton U13’s and another goal against Vancouver Academy in a 3-0 victory.

“It was fun, very good and very fast,” commented Chalwell. “Technically, I learnt a lot.”

The BVIFA will look to sending teams, in the future, to England and in the longer term, the visits will be reciprocal, along with more coaching courses and individuals being sent to work in the Academy, both for football and education.
