ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A Cane Garden Bay resident, who was caught with $136,620 by officers in January 2012, is expected to stand trial in the Magistrate’s Court on July 11, 2012.

Leon King is facing one count of acquisition, possession or use of proceeds of criminal conduct charge.

The 31 year-old landed in trouble after police observed him on January 24, 2012 around 2:25 p.m. travelling in and exiting a small vessel “Overeasy” close to the Frenchman’s Cay bridge on the western end of the island of Tortola.

The boat was searched and a black bag containing over $136,000 was found. He was the sole occupant of the vessel.

He is currently on bail - $40,000 cash and $160,000 signed surety, and is represented by Herbert McKenzie.

Meanwhile, Senior Magistrate Valerie Stephens has extended the Crown’s application to hold the money until trial.
