ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Cedar International “A” were crowned Champions at the BVI Rugby Union’s U13 Primary School Touch Rugby Tournament on Friday February 7, 2014 with a resounding 3-0 victory over Cedar “B”.

A total of 15 games of rugby were played among 8 Primary Schools on the A.O. Shirley Ground and each won as keenly contested as the next as Francis Lettsome Primary looked to defend their title from last year.

However they failed to make it out of the group stages, despite some battling performances, and will have to go back to the drawing board.

The eventual semifinalists were Cedar “A”, who faced Isabella Morris Primary and Ivan Dawson Primary who had to play Cedar “B”.

Cedar “A” just overcame IMPS, 3-2, whilst Ivan Dawson went down fighting, 4-2.

The final was a smooth ride for the “A” team as Liam Blok scored twice and Stephano Tasking once to secure the Championship.

“It feels good to win in short, the thing is every year the kids we make a great effort and the kids make improvements and that’s the approach we take with it. So it’s very rewarding to see them reach the final and be successful, but more importantly, really understanding that if they play as a team and work as a team what they can really achieve” commented Coach Lettsom Jackson”

BVIRU Development Coach, Sherlock Solomon noted it had been another successful day overall with some good performances “We have a new Champion, which means other teams have been working on their game and the defending Champions came expecting a walkover, but no, some other teams had done their homework and it showed in their performances. I think today was a higher level than previous tournaments and was a lot of fun with some good Rugby.”

Rugby is a fine sport and it is great to see it played her, finally. I am sure all of the players played to their full abilities and are proud of the job they did. It is the players to congratulate and say,"cheers to you all" and, hopefully lots of parents and guardians were there to say just that. Like soccer, rugby can be played on any field with space and level ground. That is all.......adding the coaches, parents and older players to teach the rules and schedule the games and practices. That is all..........
