Coming off their fourth consecutive domestic 20/20 cricket title victory earlier this month, the Cavaliers Cricket Club is in the process of galvanizing support to help the local fight against cancer, which affects dozens of persons across the Virgin Islands.

Vice-President of the Club Ravindra Maywahlall, encouraged the public to support the club’s on going raffle from which proceeds will go towards the BVI Cancer Society.

The drawing for the raffle was scheduled for Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the festival grounds in Road Town, but the Association’s Board has decided to postpone the drawing until October 13, 2012 to coincide with the BVI Cancer Society’s Awareness Month activities in October.

“We wanted to give as much persons as possible to participate in the raffle. Ticket sales have been encouraging, but we have not reached many persons in the community. We also felt that having the drawing during the activities to mark Cancer Awareness Month in the Territory was appropriate. A ticket cost $5 and the grand first prize is $1,500. The second prize is $1,000 and the third prize is $500," Maywahlall said.

Tickets can be purchased from any member of the club’s members.

“By supporting this raffle you support the fight against cancer. Everyone knows someone in their family or outside their family who have been affected by Cancer. We wanted to show our commitment to the BVI community not only as providing entertainment for spectators in the form of cricket, but by making a meaningful contribution to the society. As a club we are honoured to be embarking on another such venture,” Ravindra Maywahlall noted.

Last year, the club donated part proceeds from their annual raffle to the BVI Diabetes Association. The club would like to thank all those who have bought tickets thus far and look forward to the support from others.
