VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Following a series of fights involving mostly females, Police reportedly forced a stop to the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Rise and Shine this morning, April 17, 2017.

According to reports reaching our newsroom, at least one woman ended up with head injuries in one of the "cat fights" that broke out during the early morning revelry.

It is not clear at this time if anyone has been arrested.

Police ended the Rise and Shine just around 8:15 AM following two separate brawls.

  There should be no festival jamboree like this one during the Holy Week. This is a time when we celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord & savior Jesus Christ and this is how people behave? I quite agree that the format of Festival needs to change. Vulgarity and Violence in the name of fun and freedom is such a waste of foolish waste of funds.

From what I hear, it was the innocent ones who got the injuries - not the ones that were fighting. Further, the police need to be more vigilant in carrying out their duties. The police need to receive more and appropriate training to handle situations such as what happened this morning. With different equipment, it could have been worse, think about it.

Finally, those who started the fracas need to learn to behave themselves better. Stop spoiling a good time.
