ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- With the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) internal elections just over a month away, November 30, 2016, party president Mr Carvin Malone has announced he will not be seeking re-election to his post.

Mr Malone made the announcement via a press release this evening, October 23, 2016 and further confirmed the information to this news site.

He said he has served as President of the Virgin Islands Party for over 17 years and during the period has twice initiated the review of the VIP Constitution and has conducted 4 General Elections and 1 By-election.

“But, there comes to every man, a moment to decide! Today, I announce that I would not stand for re-election to the post of President of the Virgin Islands Party at the November 30th internal elections,” Mr Malone stated.

The out-going president said the opportunity now exists for capable, willing, experienced and abled persons to offer their talents and to be effective in forwarding the principles and aims of the Virgin Islands Party and thereby building a “Better Virgin Islands for all”.

“I would assist the newly elected Executive Committee members in whatever capacity deemed appropriate and I will continue to do my part in, ‘Making the Virgin Islands the Best that it can be’”

The best & worst of times

In his press release, Mr Malone stated that as president of the party he has seen the best of times and also witnessed the worst of times.

He said, however, that he would not trade his experience for anyone’s, adding that for 17 of 45 years since the charter of the Virgin Islands Party he has worked with 62 VIP officials either in office or on the campaign trail.

“For 15 of the 17 years as President I was privileged to work with Hon Ralph T. O’Neal OBE in his capacity as Chairman. The lessons that I have learnt are immeasurable; priceless! What is most pleasing to me is that over the same span of 17 years I have worked with members of the administrative arm of the executive committee -- members that are second-to none and are best described as Hardworking, Dedicated, Honest and Committed to Country-above Self.”

Mere critical spectators

And as the days wind down to the VIP elections, Mr Malone said he is amazed and challenged that additional experienced and capable persons continue to find it personally convenient to be “mere critical spectators at a time when the country needs them most.”

“Our capable and experienced citizens remain non participatory at a time when National and International events will definitely reshape the Political, Social and Economic landscape of the British Virgin Islands. Some 55 years ago a noted American President, during his inaugural address proclaimed, ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”. Another noted President asked, “If not you, Who? If not now, When?’”

The Virgin Islands Party is scheduled to hold internal elections of members to each of the 9 elected posts on the executive committee.

Eyes are also on round two of the battle for the chairmanship of the VIP between incumbent Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) and Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1).

Just a follow up and it is my personal opinion; any person seeking to be the premier of the territory should be an at large candidate let it be the choice of the voters and not a partisan selection(put up or shut up)

@ the audience: give it to Roxie; brilliant woman will bring fresh ideas to what's left of the party: let flax run in district 9: while we at it put Dawson as chairman of the party(you don't have to look it but I said it)

The Vip have no more money donor's, with out money or a Billionaire on the team they cannot win. .Carvin is now joining his brothers and close friends on the Billionaire party end of Quote. .The Vip died when the founding father died haven't catch themselves yet. .Fraser and Fahie needs to form there own party and create their own identity. .

Carvin is an Asset a man of reasoning. For him to throw the towel in it has to be something that is troublesome that he rather not be apart of. Carvin is a man that love challenges..A man that make good things happen.. This has to be something really hot he doesn't want to touch.

Perhaps he will be a candidate in their ticket instead? Either that or he saw the writing on the wall and may get another nice sewage contract under NDP.
