CANE GARDEN BAY, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands News Online, has been reliably informed by senior Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Officials, that Mr Carnel D. Clyne, a BVI Tourist Board Official, has been selected to run in the Second District for the party at the upcoming General Elections.

Mr Clyne, an indigenous Virgin Islander and grandson of the late Legislator, Prince M. Stoutt and nephew of the late Chief Minister H. Lavity Stoutt, will be going up against Honourable, Melvin M. Turnbull, who represents the National Democratic Party -2 breakaway group now called the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM).

At-Large ready

It was reportedly confirmed at the party’s congress last night, December 1, 2018.

Both Mr Clyne and Party Boss, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) could not be reached for comments.

This publication understands there was a Second District internal election of the VIP committee a few days ago, that saw Mr Clyne, winning against his female opponent.

This means that the main Opposition VIP has its 13 candidates and is the only political party at this time that has a full slate for the next General Elections that must be held by April 16, 2019.

Last evening December 1, 2018, the party’s congress confirmed former BVI Softball Association President, Mr Neville A. Smith aka ‘Sheep,’ and former VIP President, Mr Carvin Malone.

In addition, two females made the ticket, BVI Tourist Board Manager and social activist, Ms Shereen D. Flax-Charles, and Educator, Businesswoman and former Miss BVI , Ms Sharie B. de Castro.

There were all successful in their bids to be the party’s At-Large candidates.

9 district candidates ready

The District Candidate are Hon Andrew A. Fahie for D1, Carnel D. Clyne a Tourism Board Official in D2, former Ag Permanent Secretary, Educator and Businesswomen Ms Arlene L. Smith-Thompson for D3, former Director of Culture, Ms Luce Hodge-Smith for D4; Commissioner for the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Mr Kye M. Rymer for D5, Former member of the Public Service Commission (PSC), Ag Permanent Secretary and businessman Mr John Samuel in D6, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College’s lecturer, Dr  Natalio D. Wheatley aka ‘Sowande Uhuru’ for D7, Former Deputy Comptroller of Customs and businessman Dean B. Fahie, for D8 and  Mr Vincent O. Wheatley for D9, a former school teacher and Sister Islands Programme Coordinator.

Very impressive team. Those who suggest that this team is weak, do not really know these candidates. Tell me who from the other teams can match up.

Allen O’Neal ran against his uncle Ralph O’Neal in District 9,
Elvin Stoutt ran against his uncle H. Lavity Stoutt in District 1.
Two cousins running against each other in the Fifth.
Two cousins running against each other in the Eight.
Two cousins running against each other in the Third.
This is BVI? Almost everyone is related.
So what if Carnel and Mitch related.
      May the best man win.

What did Mitch do before he ran? He is a Virgin Islander and if he feels he can contribute leave him.
  • Change must come. (03/12/2018, 10:38) Like (3) Dislike (0) Reply
Despite the Hon Premier trying to suggest that things have never been better at the BVI Tourist Board, it is clear that many of the staff are not pleased with the current operations to the point that they are prepared to stand up for a change.

    Quite interesting.

Carnel is no relation to the late Prince or Lavity Stoutt. He's a Clyne not a Stoutt.
