NASSAU, The Bahamas, WI- It is not the first time such confusion has happened in athletics but it can be a little disappointing when officials get the results of an event wrong and then have to make the correction after medals would have been already handed out.

This was the case of Virgin Islands' sprinter Rikkoi A.R. Brathwaite, who was adjudged to have placed second in the Boys 100m Under 20 Final at the 47th Flow Carifta Games in Nassau, The Bahamas on March 31, 2018.

The results showed Brathwaite coming in second in a time of 10.43.

He was awarded the silver medal at the race’s presentation yesterday.

However, the sprinter, who is the first VI athlete to medal in a Boys 100m at the games since 1976 was greeted with the news this morning, April 1, 2018 that he had in fact placed third and will see his medal swapped for bronze.

Television replays confirmed that Brathwaite had placed third in 10.46 behind Bahamians Joel Johnson (10.31) and Adrian Curry (10.43).

Information reaching our newsroom is that the Virgin Islands camp only learnt about the mix-up around 10:00AM this morning.

News out of The Bahamas; however, is that the sprinter Brathwaite is not fazed by the issue.

“He is okay about it,” BVI Athletics Association’s Public Relations Officer Mr Cleave M. Farrington, who is in The Bahamas, told our newsroom.

Another medal presentation will be held at 4:30 P.M today where the medals will be distributed accordingly.

At least the mixup was straightened out, and even though disappointed, no silver, he did get the bronze and is in the top 3. Congratulations to all of the winners.

Watch the race good. I watched the clip over and over this morning and kept saying it doesn't look like he placed second at all. It more looked like 3rd.

He came third in the race. Not sure why was he giving second place after the race.

I knew he's third after the race and the replay. Did you people watch the race? If so then no surprise here. Why he was giving second place originally I'm not sure about.

It was a really close finish. Anybody’s silver. The Bahamian got his chest over the line before BVI. That’s all; he was denied the silver by a dip. Great performance by him nonetheless. A medal in this race is the hardest one to get in any competition. We are happy we have finally gotten one. The door is now opened for silver and gold to be gotten in this event both male and female. Go TEAM BVI!!

It has clearly shown that he placed third, which is an accomplishment. Don't allow that to detour your will, at lease you made the podium. Congratulation is fitting for a great effort.
