ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Minister for Communications and Works Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4) said that mistakes in design caused the Ministry to restart the Capoon’s Bay drainage project and that it will be completed before the next hurricane season.

The Minister was on Monday November 10, 2014 responding to Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) who had posed the question to him during the First Sitting of the Fourth Session of the Second House of Assembly.

“Madam Speaker, given that we are in the hurricane season, could the Minister for Communications and Works please update this Honourable House on when the next phase of the drainage project would commence, inclusive of the pumps being installed in Capoon’s Bay, especially in the area known as the Bottom, seeing that the first phase of the project commenced prior to November 2011?” asked Hon Fahie.

In response, Hon Vanterpool said, “Madam Speaker, the Ministry of Communications and Works does not expect to begin civil works on the Capoon’s Bay drainage project this year 2014.”

He said that the Ministry considers this project to be of major importance and on site preparatory works are being put in place so that work could commence and be completed before the next hurricane season.

Regarding the first phase, the pumps that were originally ordered based on the then design turned out to be incorrect and as such the Ministry had to restart the project.

Asked by Hon Fahie which Government entity designed the first phase of the project, Hon Vanterpool said he didn’t know the exact answer but he suspected one of the entities under the Ministry of Communications and Works.

You give it a break. The point is the project was started by the NDP has refused to continie much less finish it. The NDP spent millions in unbudgeted projects such as Georgie Hill so they have no excuse. So you just back off. Plus Georgie Hill didn't go through the bidding process.

M..k you and your government will be cleaning out your offices next year. All of you are a set of liars and hypocrites. None of you give a damn about the people. Your colleague give away our local fishermen fishing rights, locals are at a disadvantage in every aspect of the development of our country, because you people only do what is going to line you all pockets. During August Festival there are no lobster dishes because the fishermen are banned from catching lobsters, but the rich elites have access to lobsters because they are not banned from catching lobsters. They can fish for lobsters year round. There is no way in hell that the VIP government mess, can compare to the sH$$t that NDP is doing to the people of this territory. And what is so bad, is that the people expected better from NDP. They are the worse set of scoundrels to ever grace the halls of the honorable HOA. So M..k, don't make plans on being part of the future of the NEW BVI. The NDP will be history. Dr. P..kering might as well don't come in Long Look to campaign. His goose is already cooked. Bye Bye NDP.
