Candidates to declare interests before Nomination Day, Feb 11, 2019

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Candidates contesting the upcoming general elections are urged to declare their interests before Nomination Day on February 11. General Elections will be held in the Virgin Islands on February 25.

This is according to a release from the Government Information Service which states that According to Section 66(1)(f) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order: “66. (1) No person shall be qualified to be elected as a member of the House of Assembly who— (f) is a party to, or a partner in a firm or a director or manager of a company which is a party to, any contract with the Government of the Virgin Islands for or on account of the public service, and has not, within fourteen days before his or her nomination as a candidate for election, published in the Gazette or in a newspaper circulating in the Virgin Islands a notice setting out the nature of such contract and his or her interest, or the interest of such firm or company, in it.”

For further information, candidates may contact the Office of the Supervisor of Elections located on the ground floor of Ulric Dawson’s Building #6, Russell Hill Road, Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

    Yeah, yeah. See how many of them will do it and will be honest with themselves and the people. I have a register of interest. How many of them comply with it? If they were complying with the registrar of interest, then we will not be here asking them now to register their interest before nomination.
