Candidate proposes life alert for the elderly
At a meeting held recently at the Band Stand, the independent candidate rolled out his plans for the elderly in the district.
To his supporters, he said, “They helped us get where we are now so we can’t forget them, we need to find ways to look after them and keep them involved as part of the community.”
Admitting that there are issues within the healthcare system and the caring for the elderly, Scatliffe intends to strengthen the home care basics programme by encouraging young women to become certified “in this field which can then lead to a career in nursing while at the same time provide the necessary care and attention our seniors deserve while at home.”
“There are a lot of elderly people in the 4th district who are often alone and who don’t have anyone to help them because either they never had children or their children live elsewhere or predeceased them. While the community and the different churches do their best to help by offering lunch on certain days, a lot more is needed,” declared Scatliffe, who describes himself as a new generation leader.
He further stated that the upgrading of the Territory’s health care facilities and access to affordable health care are critical at this time, and the district needs a leader who will address the many issues facing hospital and public health clinics.
Scatliffe added he will ensure affordable and accessible transportation to health facilities and affordable pharmaceutical supplies will also be readily available for the elderly.
