Canadian linesman allegedly rescues pup from dog fighting ring in VI
Now a story has appeared in a Canadian newspaper about another dog rescue, although under different circumstances.
The Telegram published on February 19, 2018 that a linesman from Newfoundland, Canada, told them he rescued a pup from a dog fighting ring in the Virgin Islands.
Jesse Noseworthy, according to The Telegram, is in the Virgin Islands helping to repair power lines damaged after hurricanes Irma and Maria.
The linesman said his team was on January 16, 2018 salvaging parts and material from the existing power lines that were all damaged in the hurricanes, when they stumbled across dogs being neglected, as “None were fed and none had water.”
The Telegram said Noseworthy told them there were “about 20 dogs chained onto concrete slabs in the middle of the woods.”
Starter dogs
According to the publication, Noseworthy asked the locals about the dogs and was allegedly told that they were used as “starter dogs” for a dog fighting ring. Noseworthy was reportedly told the animals are used to get the “main fighting dogs hyped before the main fights.” The so-called “starter dogs” are kept separated from the “main” dogs.
“My heart sank when I saw them all. It was like something you see on TV. You don’t even know what it’s like until you see it in person.”
The Telegram added that Noseworthy and his co-workers started sneaking in to feed and water the dogs during their work breaks and, throughout all of this time, he has never seen anyone else around.
Rescue mission
Through conversations with residents, Noseworthy found out that one of the dogs, a pup, was scheduled to fight on the weekend of February 10, 2018 in Josiah’s Bay.
“I couldn’t let this happen,” said Noseworthy. So, he went in with bolt cutters on February 9, 2018.
“He could barely hold his head up, (the chain) was that heavy.”
Noseworthy conducted the rescue mission in broad daylight. He says he went into the woods as soon as he found out the puppy was scheduled to fight, even though he describes the situation as “nerve wracking”.
“But once I seen him light up when I put him over the wall, it was all worth it.”
Joey is heading to Canada
The article further stated that Noseworthy named the puppy Joey, after Josiah’s Bay, where he was scheduled to fight. Noseworthy says he has no idea what breed of dog it is, but locally the dogs are referred to as “coconut retrievers” because if you throw a coconut, they’ll bring it back to you.
Joey has been by Noseworthy’s side every day since he was rescued.
Noseworthy brought Joey to a veterinarian on the island, who gave him medications, vaccinations, and a microchip. He also has all the necessary travel documents to bring Joey back to Newfoundland, “where he will live like a king.”
The pair will return home at the beginning of March, according to The Telegram.
The publication also stated that Noseworthy said he found out that people are aware of the dog fighting activities but are scared to do anything about it because they’re afraid of the repercussions from people who are organising the fights.
“If I had the means, I would take all (of the dogs) and bring them to Canada, and try to find homes for them,” the article quoted Noseworthy as saying.
No reports of dog fighting- RVIPF
There have been reports before of dog fighting and cock fighting on the main island, Tortola.
However, when our newsroom contacted the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) about the recent allegations of dogfighting in the Josiah’s Bay area, Police Information Officer Diane L. Drayton said the RVIPF had received “no reports so far.”

Yea you right........ THESE PEOPLE.
An opinion and point of view is identified with a particular poster. Some are respected more than others.
But when you STEAL someone's identity, opinions and posters don't matter any more and you diminish them as participants in the discussion. Or is this too complicated for you? RESPECT!
I discover that there are too many mistreatment of animals that go unnoticed here in the BVI.
