DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – With lyrics that point fingers directly to the ills of the National Democratic Party (NDP) government during this term in office Joycelyn 'Sistah Joyce' Searles said that it is only calypso that tells nothing but the truth and as such judges should not be influenced by government to mark down calypsonians during the calypso competition this year.

As the years roll by those who love calypso music and especially those taking part in the writing of lyrics for the popular and well sought after calypso monarch crown, said that they have grown in the industry by researching the composition of the songs as written by some of the most accomplished calypsonians across the Caribbean region and for Searles it’s no different.

One of her calypso that is already hitting hard is one titled, ‘Who it hurt it hurt’ and already there is evidence of NDP government officials and others feeling offended and targeted.

“Cries of frustration getting louder in this country, man everywhere you turn people crying with majority echoing the same thing. Cost of living so high you got to do or die. Well it seems like the sheriff and his deputies you hear me, lose all respect and decency for the people of this country, that’s why the bells of corruption…..” states one verse of Ms Searles’ ‘Who it hurt it hurt’ calypso.

One of the part that has the NDP and its cronies popping a vein is when she sang, “About the cruise ship development standard bring shame to the country, Mr. Governor please launch the inquiry…it in the belly and who it hurt it hurt….investigate them…solve the problem…..and if you find them guilty of breaking the law, apply the pressure, lock them up, and who it hurt it hurt...”

In part of the calypso she said that some might ask the question why she is attacking the NDP and she stated that she has every right to do so because she was one who helped put them in power. “In their hands I placed my family’s future, hoping that they would do better, to make life in this country easier but all I seeing is them and their businesses progressing daily… yet if you check them for a little help they give you all kind of bear-anancy story… so they could keep their blood money I ain’t voting for nobody and who it hurt it hurt.”

During her sit down with this news site recently while at a function at Fantasy, Duff’s Bottom the reigning calypso monarch said that she feels strongly about government manipulating judges at this year’s competition.

“Calypso is like some people call it the poor man’s newspaper where issues are brought out there through the form of calypso,” she said. “Last year I sang about Ballo (Her Majesty Prison Balsum Ghut) this year experience beat me again and it has taught me again and even doubled more than last year so when I say who it hurt it hurt, I really mean who it hurt it hurt because I had enough, the pressure burst the pipe right now,” she told this news site.

Asked about her being a victim of victimization for speaking things as she sees it she said, “Personally I don’t care, I coming with facts; I am singing facts because right now pressure burst pipe who feels it knows it.”

The well known calypsonian said that she has seen corruption not only in the NDP but she alleged that the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) when in power were also guilty of some levels of wrongdoings but the NDP has to be the focus at this time as they are the ones in power and are not seen doing as promised during the 2011 election campaigns. She said that the NDP led government is doing worse today.

Ms Searles said that she felt compelled to represent her songs ahead of the competition because she observed the actions of prominent leaders and even on government Minister recently while at the elimination round of this year’s calypso competition.

She said that the message was clear as she was singing one verse of her calypso a Minister walked out and a district leader from the government’s side was allegedly overheard making unsavory comments about her. “That District representative had a mouthful and didn’t even know the people around were my people and they told, more than one person told me and that’s bad but who it hurt it hurt.”

The calypso finals are set for July 30, 2014 in the Iris Freeman Festiville where Searles will be defending her title.

So VG Resident u condone what she did then? is that what you're saying? She did the wrong so the public should have backed her? If that's the case then we should back everybody that breaks the law & you can't say not cause if you say ok for one you have to say it for all.

If politicians or whoever wants to cetch feelings over what she sings or any calypsonian for that matter then ups to them, that's what calypsonians do. These politicians know they doing wrong & ridicule anybody that speaks out against them. Calypsonians sing about social ills in their countries all the time, it's not something that just started. When you listen to the likes of Mighty Sparrow, Short Shirt, Chalk Dust, Calypso Rose etc you hear about politics, melee you name it & these same politicians right here in BVI been listening to those artists for yrs & still do laughing & enjoying the music but nooooo when it comes to they themselves being sung upon they push up they face & stick out they lip long like a child. Do the right thing & then your name wouldn't be in the spot light now would it.

That part of the story said it all for me! This is why most people are upset. They think politicians and businessmen who they vote for should give them everytime they ask. Nobody send them to breed down the place now if you give them $5 when they ask for $10 it's a problem. Let them haul their ass go work to feed their pickney they bring into the world. She thought things would be better. VIP didn't give her what she want so she run to NDP. I guess PEP can welcome her into the fold. Words right out her mouth, can't beat that.

What is all the drama about? Reminds me of the time NDP brought the bill to the house to shut down the media or mvw tsunamis about vino. so Ms. Joyce no big surprise? I doubt it will get any better until we vote them out as the vitimization will contiune. NDP will call a snap election? We'll just have to be patient and vote them out.

To real!, if sister Joyce beg for money to sponser her music who cares, u beg for money to be a artist, a doctor, a plumber, to get your kids through college or what ever we voted them in and have the right to ask. Don't we all pay taxes?

I tired of her singing the same old stories..every year the same old thing...she needs to learn how to sing if you ask me. So what if the elected official made comments on what she sing..hell she is singing about them without any kind of proof...tit for tat..she must talk and they must not say anything..every Jack man has feelings.
