ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Minister for Communications and Works, Hon. Mark Vanterpool, while updating the public on a local talk show, NDP Radio, informed a caller that the government is always conscious of the public’s safety, and always tries to enhance the safety methods and techniques within the Virgin Islands.

Speaking on NDP Radio aired on August 20, 2012, a caller directed a question to the Minister, regarding the plans to install guard rails along the sea side.

Specifically, the caller’s question focused on critical areas on Tortola that are in need of guard rails, leading from East End to West End.

In response, Hon. Vanterpool said that himself and his assigned Ministry, are accustomed to reviewing areas from time to time, for the purpose of assisting with the said problem.

He added that Government and his Ministry are always anxious to put guard rails in place around the territory, for the public’s safety.

Minister Vanterpool added that himself and other Government Ministers would also discuss among themselves, areas that need guard rails or any other assistance, coming from his Ministry.

I hope he is discriminating on the location of guard rails. Not every place needs them, but surely big bends in the road. I don't think they are needed on all straight aways. I say this not because I am against public safety, but it is another opportunity for Mr. Vanterpool to build something and let it go unfinished. Put them where they are most needed.

For real there are a lot of places needing guard rail. But as usual they would not do anything until some with a bus filled with children goes over the cliff!
