ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – After being completed nearly four years ago, census results are yet to be made available to the public after being promised for the third quarter of 2013.

A report issued by the Development Planning Unit (DPU) in July 2013 previously indicated that due to human resource constraints, census results were likely by September 2013, however this was not done.

Details emerging from the Standing Finance Committee (SFC) deliberations on draft estimates for the 2014 budget revealed that an update concerning the status of the census results is likely to be made to Cabinet by the end of March 2014.

Director of the Central Statistics Office, Mr Raymond Phillips, in response to a question posed by Territorial At-Large Representive Hon. Archibald C. Christian, said that the scanning, correction and editing had been completed and noted that further cleansing of the information was necessary.

Absent officials census results, Education Officer Connie George told residents during a presentation earlier this week, that locals are outnumbered by expatriates as much as 70 percent in the Virgin Islands workforce.

She further told residents that local last names such as George no longer carry any weight in the Territory.
