ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Today March 21, 2017 at the continuation of the 5th Sitting of the 2nd Session of the 3rd House of Assembly, Members voted unanimously for Sea Cows Bay businessman C. Michael Thomas to serve another two and a half years as the Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) Board of Directors.

Most Members spoke and showered high praises on Mr Thomas who was first appointed in February 13, 2015 for two years and his reappointment now will expire in 2019.

Some elected Members also expressed their dissatisfaction with the telecommunication services in the Virgin Islands, and warned there are still lots of work to be done.

The TRC is responsible for regulating the Telecommunications sector in the Virgin Islands, which includes some four carriers, Flow, Digicel (BVI), CCT Global Communications and BVI Cable TV.

Additionally, the TRC is also responsible for issuing radio and TV station licenses and awarding radio frequencies among other duties.

Over the past five years, there have been infighting and counter allegations by the three cellular phone carriers, and fights over awarding of the 4G spectrum and its implementation.

Recently, Flow has reported that someone has started to sabotage its cable lines.

Mr Thomas is the grandson of the late Mrs Varlerie O. Thomas whom the Sea Cows Bay Community Centre is named after.

The mover of the motion was Minister for Communications and Works Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4).

What is his business. Does he have an education in telecommunications? You can't do this job if you have no knowledge of the business.

For the benefit of those who have not been around as long as i have, both parties do similar things. It's only when in opposition that the one states the other is wrong. #RealFacts

This is the way the two party system used to work. I'm happy it's back, even if only for a brief moment.
