BVP…(Truth for the Youth).… WHOM SHOULD WE ENDORSE?... #2

Alred Frett
By Alred Frett

My previous article contained many points of interests and while some responses acknowledged the article as ‘deep & profound’ one writer self-named ‘Real Talk’ appeared to accept all the things I said as truthful and acknowledged the unfair treatment of a local BV-Islander but became defensively offensive about my opposition to plans designed to send seniors to Spooner's Hill.

Mr. or Ms ‘Real Talk’ has every right to their opinion and we assumed that he/she researched and accepted the accuracy of all other points in the article… In seeking how best to address his one remaining concern it would seem the easiest way may be to invite him to come along with me on Wednesdays when I visit the Seniors so he may see whether his Real Talk is fact or fiction.

It is somewhat amusing to note how I am continually attacked by persons with falsified names… First it was Mr. Intelligent who supported folly then Researcher who did no research and now ‘real talk’ who purports fantasy… This is similar to Calypsonians calling themselves pompous names such as Kings, Queens, Lords, Monarchs and Mighty’s even before Judges can decide…

Let’s be real… My name is AC Frett because I rebel against Slavery and the Last Virgin because we are an endangered people… If ‘real talk’ wants the rights to that title then at least let him do real research and find out the facts about me – Check the plans & projects I initiated and learn of things I have always stood for & things I stood against… Maybe then he/she will apologize – Not to me but to BV-Islanders he/she was likely to mislead – Then we can dialogue.

The word ‘haters’ is being thrown around by real haters like ‘real talk’ but research will show that I have always promoted love and not hate… Furthermore this mission has never been about AC Frett but about the children of the BVI with the objective of ensuring the time is not up for them… In this ‘silly season’ we all need to see beyond the Elections of November 7th 2011.

From Banners, Billboards, Internet, Radio, TV and Pretty Pictures plastered on light poles we see Elections have grown ultra expensive. Candidates who preach how badly the country is broke are the same ones spending money like rain as if they own printing presses… If we paused to compare their spending sprees to their expected salaries it becomes very, very troubling.

We all know the Piper must be paid and it is common knowledge that these aspirants have no real love for us … If rumours are true that most candidates are broker than fracture and living from paycheck to paycheck with large outstanding bills then we must ask ourselves (and these Candidates) who is sponsoring them?... What is their price? and, are our children up for sale?

This is no joke… Think about it… If you & I are in the same predicament, how can you help me if you can’t help yourself?... The actions of those before clearly show that oppressors only use such candidates to make up numbers necessary to provide a so-called Democratic Majority necessary to give them legal authority in order to perpetuate their own greed & corruption.

This may sound harsh but every 4 years we demonstrate this measure of stupidity as we become flag waving, whistle blowing warriors for persons who couldn’t care whether we live or die provided we put ‘X’ in a box giving them the power to disenfranchise our children… Once done we dare not speak out against their injustice or we will be labeled controversial trouble makers.

I say, so let it be - Call me what you will but this is the 21st Century and the real world is far larger than BVI… We only have to look at protests against greed & corruption from the Middle East to Europe to America to realize ordinary men & women are tired being fooled by fools. The question is, should we learn from mistakes of others or keep on reinventing the wheel?

As a ‘not for sale’ local BV-Islander I live under constant attack - even by other locals - so that non-locals may replace me and set a trend whereby all other locals after my time must simply follow and never lead. I have endured this battle without begging for help because it provides a great teaching opportunity.… It allows other locals to learn so that their children would not burn.

In all fairnessm I have received many well wishes in this struggle… Quite a few have said they can see the injustice and know it’s wrong but I should leave it all up to God and he will solve it.

Not so my friends - Please bear in mind, while God helps those who help themselves, oppressors have always felt they owned Church and Religion with a personal direct connection to God.

We must deal with the reality that while 14 representatives knew about these difficulties of our people, only 2 out of the 14 thought of this Corruption & Oppression of locals as wrong enough to raise their voices against it. Research shows some other representatives actually fought tooth & nails to ensure I would be kept back, victimized and preference given to non locals.

I did not ask these 2 Members to do what they did and they asked me for nothing in return…. I am not even in their districts so this was not for my vote. They were simply prepared to lift their voices so Locals who had done nothing wrong would get a chance at being treated right.

More importantly the facts & arguments of Hon. Dancia Penn-Sallah & Julian Frazer were true.

However, today there are complaints that Dancia & Julian did nothing and should be replaced… You may believe this and I do not know your experiences… However, before acting in haste take a little time to ask yourselves: 1. Are you sure they really did nothing for the People? 2. Are there any members in Opposition or Government who did more? 3. Were the effects of their actions designed to help or hinder locals?... and…

4. Do you really & truly believe the others now shouting can do as good a job?

These are all serious questions that I have also asked myself and it’s quite possible that in the heat of the moment your answer may be quite different to mine but as usual, I say it as I see it…

I believe Dancia and Julian are not for sale and will not be afraid to stand up for their people instead of lying down with those ready & willing to sell us and themselves for their own greed.

This is not some fashion show or popularity contest but likely a most important Election in our lifetime… Leaders should be persons who can help instead of persons seeking help and if there are no such persons we have as much right not to vote as the right to vote… At the end of the day, it is still our decision to do or not to do as we remain accountable for our own actions.

PS:- On Wednesday October 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. I will be Marching from Noel Lloyd’s Park to the House of Assembly in Protest of the rampant Injustice, Greed and Corruption now threatening our Youth and plaguing our Country.

LOL! Mr. Frett, thank you for the 'shout outs' in your piece!! I must say I enjoyed reading this. Now, the real question is, while you make absolute sense with your article, one thing is for sure! We need a Government to manage the day-to-day operations of the Territory and our finances! With all the gloom and doom mentioned above, what do you suggest, or HOW do you suggest we get people in there who will look out for us? Regardless of who we intend to vote for, there will be risk involved! You don't know what a man is capable of unless he's given a chance to prove him/herself, so how do we go about this? Should we sit back and simply 'don't vote' for fear of electing the 'wrong' person? Please enlighten me! I'm not trying to be funny or sarcastic, I would really like to hear your views as it relates to this topic. Being a past Legislator yourself I look forward to your next 'piece'.
