VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- The British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVIPA) has announced it has invested in parcels of land located in Virgin Gorda.

It said the parcels of land were purchased to expand the Virgin Gorda port facility by separating the cargo and passenger ports.

“Located in close proximity to the current St Thomas Bay facility on Virgin Gorda makes it the ideal location for port expansion. The separation of these ports has been a part of the BVI Ports Authority’s expansion plans for an extended period of time,” the Authority stated in a press release today, October 9, 2020.

The separation of the passenger and cargo ports has been talked about for many years, including by previous governments; however, no meaningful moves were made until now, under the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government.

A step forward

Prior to the acquisition of the land, the BVIPA stated, it requested an appraisal by one of the territory’s reputable appraisal companies. “The BVIPA was guided by the figure provided by the appraisal company and moved forward based on information provided in the appraisal.”

The Authority hailed the acquisition of parcels of land on Virgin Gorda as a step forward in the BVIPA’s mission of providing superior quality seaport facilities and services.

“The BVI Ports Authority Board and management team are pleased that they have been able to accomplish this goal in the pursuit to keep the BVI moving.”

Lawd we miss dir** bertie, that guy really wuk for the VG people. We feel really bad that the VG people played games and gave him the thumbs up but voted for Vincy instead. Gave poor Bertie a nervous breakdown as he couldnt leave home for weeks. This was his idea and the terminal should be credited and named after him. The living in his father shadow oneal cargo port.

I am not bashing Bertie. I am just highlighting the fact that the voting public is misleading when it comes to election. They attend your rallies, eat your food, take your envelopes then vote you out of a job. Take O. Hodge for example- the stress from a mash up in the 6th cause him severe nuerological ailments and resulted in a pronounced and profound misailment of his legs where they were almost in the shape of the letter K. Not sure if he was walking or doing the eggy wukkup half of the time.

Where is this land that was bought? who was it purchased from? when was this done? How much was it purchased for?
    HMMMMMM!
This will shock some people that don't know their history of VG. Was this a bail out deal to save a supposedly powerful business man? or is it another gimmick to bring business to our High priced restaurant on the beach? Or did we just buy back government property from the government? Something not adding up on this big deal at all.

AYO keep this non sense up and you will find what it cost to play mass.

Well said Blacka, your questions deserve answers. As far as I know, the dock was and is government property. So it will be interested to note the price paid. Another disadvantage with this is the place is congested as is, no parking and no easy flow of traffic. Another disadvantage is the proximity to the famous baths. Sorry for our taxi operators as most tourist will walk.

In my humble opinion, you guys should have relocated the cargo port to Manchineel bottom. Provision for expansion and growth.

Anytime it comes to vg they always build halfa$$ nonfunctional buildings....they don't ask for any suggestions from the people who work there,,,The last time they built the terminal in Spanish town, they put the building backwards facing the land,,, I hope they coming with something better this time and not build something where their offices are taking up most of the useable space.
