VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- The BVI Football Association (BVIFA) National League resumed on Sunday July 26, 2020, with the Sugar Boys treating their home fans to a 5-2 drubbing of One Caribbean and closing the gap on the top two in the standings.

Herman Gonzalez announced himself to the large crowd that gathered on the Virgin Gorda Recreation Ground with a finely crafted hat trick, but the game got off to an astonishing blaze of goals with a half time score line of 4-2 to the Sugar Boys.

Gonzalez, Terrance Nanton and Romaine Henry all put themselves on the scoresheet for Sugar Boys, whilst Chadwick Evans and Jean Charles Jr responded for One Caribbean

Gonzalez rounded out the scoring and completed his hat trick in the second half to secure all 3 points for his team, who moved up to third place in the standings on 20 points.

The Islanders cemented themselves at the top on 25 points following a 2-0 canter against Virgin Gorda United, as Kevin Fisher-Daniel scored once in each half.

Panthers narrowly lose to Wolues

Meanwhile the Panthers slipped down a spot as they conceded a late winner to the Wolues in a 1-2 defeat. Wayne Phillip put the Panthers ahead in the 48th minute, but Ian Chambers levelled things up just 4 minutes later and then deep into stoppage time Daniel Griffin netted to snatch the points and stay in touch with the Islanders, remaining second with 22 points.

Next weekend sees the National League go on pause for the BVIFA’s Women’s and Men’s Festival Cup tournaments.
