BVIEC is UMi Battle of the Corps champ
It was a very closely contested competition and judging from the crowd’s cheers the two teams were neck and neck with the level of support but it was the judges’ decision that was the deciding factor for the night.
The theme for the finals was ‘Choose it or Lose it’ and the teams battled in several segments. They both did an opening number as they sought best to sell the service/s offered by their entity. While the winning team BVIEC composed a trendy rap piece complemented by hot pants dancers, their rivals Social Security Board had the crowd rolling with their promotion of their funeral benefits.
At first as several onlookers witness the presence of a hearse, coffin and pallbearers they had no clue that they were being prepared for a belly bursting moment of laughter and fun of a drama. It was the cream of the night but yet not enough to enable them a clear walk-away win.
There was a belly-rolling laughing dead in the coffin who at intervals woke up to rebuke a cheating husband and his concubine as the wailing husband made startling confessions at the burial site of this wife. He cried bitterly not for the death of his wife but the depth he had to plunge into his pocket for the funeral expenses.
The stories of the night were real but one had to be on spot to witness it for themselves as no amount of video or photographs can recreate it. It was to such extent that the traffic without fuss stopped, workers downed tools and even came out on roof tops to catch a glimpse of the one in a lifetime show.
During the show there were displays of Cardigan Friday wear, Plus-sized dare, and Fly on a budget. There was also Ben Butler’s Blue Birthday Bash in honour of one of the judges who was celebrating his birthday yesterday, Ben Butler.
The finals of the Battle of the Corps coincided with the celebrations of UMi’s 20th Anniversary and featured the several persons who had in some way participated in the journey to UMi being at this level today. One such person was Mrs Donna Cline who was the Mistress of Activity for the night and was the very first MC for UMi back in 1994.
Both teams were given gift certificates valued $30 and $50 each respectively for their participation while the winners received additional benefits including the golden UMi 20 trophy, corporate celebrity month at UMi which sees each staff getting a 15% reduction on every purchase for one month. There will be a fashion reception in honour of the entire company to be hosted by UMi, SRM Photos, Gilda Richardson and Road Town Wholesale. There will also be a make-over for a staff member of workers’ choice and that person gets clothing, accessories, make up by Gilda Richardson and a photo shoot by Buddha.
The second place team will also enjoy 10% discount on all purchases for a week and this is opened to the entire company.
There were a lot of massive discounts and giveaways that saturated the evening at UMi Fashion Store at Water Front Drive and the BFF location at One Mart.
A number of other intriguing treats, fashion flares and show, party and fun filled activities to mark UMi’s 20th year of success in the fashion industry in the Virgin Islands will take place throughout the month of April and will even spill over to May 2014.
