VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- After months of planning and preparations, the BVI Sports Fishing Association is ready to launch with a bang!

The BVI Sport Fishing Association (BVISFA) was founded in 2014 by some industry fellows speaking out on behalf of their interests for sport fishing. The BVISFA was registered later that year as a non-profit organisation.

The association’s aim is “to develop and promote sport fishing in the BVI while adhering to federal and local regulations, to encourage compliance with rules of water safety by association members and the general public, and to promote youth related opportunities in regards to the art of sport fishing and other fishing activities while protecting ocean resources within the BVI.”

The BVISFA works with several businesses, agencies and stakeholders, including the Conservation and Fisheries Department.

Chad Emmanuel, President of the Association, had these words to share. “Sport fishing is an up and coming industry and past time around the world and also in the British Virgin Islands. This association will not only bring awareness to the community, but will assist in fostering other activities for the youth and general population to take part in. Our aim is to ensure that there are annual competitions to keep the sport alive.”

To celebrate this momentous achievement, the BVISFA is hosting an official launch party and Shoot Out tournament at Fischer’s Cove on October 18, 2015. Registration for the Shoot Out tournament is on October 17 at 5pm – 8pm ($400 per boat) immediately followed by the Captain’s Briefing at 8:15pm.

On October 18, 2015 at 6am the tournament will commence, along with the launching of the association, weigh in and prize giving ceremony during that day. Food items and drinks will be provided by the Association and all are invited for the festivities on the beach at Fischer’s Cove, Virgin Gorda.

For more information on the association, please contact Adrianna Adonis at 284-346-9080.
