ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – One resident has expressed that locals involved in initiatives such as the BVI Investment Club should be praised and not criticised as he felt they often were, despite giving their best efforts. He further stated that locals were very negative and didn’t want to see each other prosper.

Speaking on the Umoja radio programme aired on September 9, 2013 the resident stated, “I am proud of the Investment Club for what they did and our local brothers that came together. I’m glad to see that, I would like to see more of that, [and] I see those brothers at times try to do more in a sense of investing more in the BVI and creating what [they can] at home, that is good.”

However He bemoaned the fact that they were often criticised for their efforts.

He highlighted the Prospect Reef hotel which he described as sitting as a lame duck and stated that locals should come together as a group or body to address the situation. According to the resident, this was even as the Premier was calling for investors in the project.

“Tourism is our main market, we know what we need to do. We know we need to create the atmosphere of a nice hotel, we can’t come together as a people positively with a solution, with the idea to move that hotel forward… and open it?” he asked.

He also asked why locals were sitting down and waiting until investors would come into the picture before suddenly deciding that they wanted to become involved in the project. “All of a sudden now, we don’t want this, we don’t want that…”

He added that the opportunity was right in the face of locals and needed to be taken advantage of, “knowledge is power, but the problem with the knowledge, we hide [knowledge] from each other, we discourage each other. Then when we can’t move upward then we’re blaming the people outside. We need to stop putting blame and blame ourselves.” he stated.

According to the resident, locals needed to refocus on the right things and let the negative things ‘out the door’ in order to see each other as one again, “We can’t see each other [as one] because we don’t want to see each other prosper,” he stated.

I think what pisses people off is the greed and conflict of interest but no one is really against the club

exactly. It is the conflict of interest between legislators and inside information. yes indeed, knowledge is power, and those making up the rules get an advantage. Acts being passed can be the stepping stone for something down the road the public doesn't know about. How is that fair?

Chickens soon come to roost for all the ignorant small minded idiots around here. I don't see how they could hate the Investment Club. They have brains and are forward thinkers. They haven't always made sound business decisions but that's how it goes sometimes. People talking about conflict let me tell you, NDP didn't elect themselves, the people elected them TWICE as Government and they've proven to be the best at running the country over the last 15yrs. Investment Club were so savvy and forward thinking they got into politics. Don't hate them, look at what they're doing. They didn't like the direction of the country and did something about it. Why others can't do the same? They all started humbly so it's not impossible. BVI people's minds are too damn shallow that's why the real threats can get away. The ones fencing off beaches, owning whole islands for pennies on the dollar aren't in the investment club but you don't hear nobody talk about them. Set of "£$%ng idiots!!

You tell them like it is HAHA, it is time BVI Islanders have more vivid prospective and think years to come instead of the hear and now. Forward ever backwards never VIP had their time and ran the country broke!

We MUST elect leaders with vision, yes some of the decisions may seem hard and may hurt our pockets a little must its better than increased taxes and lower wages and salaries. People talking XX about this why they don't talk about those big companies in here firing employees each year ordered cut backs by their overseas head offices. Their BVI Office are booming doing well while overseas offices fail so they order global cut backs yes it CIBC FCIB I am talking about they asked their staff that if any one resigned they will get 3 months salary well we know they are just avoiding firing which is to come anyways. YES THEM AGAIN!!!

All those in government need to step down from filling their pockets through conflict with the investment club eg. What they did with the Baughers Bay plant

All the investment club cheerleaders have a rude awakening coming. These people do some questionable things and even downright illegal, especially the way they treat their staff. But God doe sleep!!!!

The BVI Investment Club was going good until greed set in & some of its members became elected officials. This is the crux of the club's problems currently.

Here we go again in this article trying to mix up the issues. No one hates the club but they got to do better. For years with CCT they had us paying to make a cell call & paying to receive a call & didn't study our cries until competition came. They could have done better but greed set in.

There are other local investment groups that don't get the breaks like this club solely because of conflict of interest by elected officials. Why didn't this government appeal the court's decision to award the part of the club Ocean Conversion Company $11mil? Simple...conflict of interest by elected officials. Let us wait & see what all this government will appeal when they loose in court. We will wait & see. That will say it all.

Contrary to some belief their are many locals trying hard to invest & move forward but unless they have the right contacts & a pan of money they often get no help even when they seek for it in the so called right places. The politics in this place is deadly.
