CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St. Thomas, USVI - The BVI Cricket Association (BVICA) President's XI finished third at Virgin Islands Cricket Explosion (VICE) Tournament, beating St. Kitts and Nevis on Sunday July 20, 2014, at the Addelita Cancryn Jr. High School Grounds, St.Thomas, USVI.

The St Kitts team included West Indies “A” Captain, Jahmar Hamilton and current Leeward’s players Nelson Bolan and Steve Liburd.

Batting first, the BVI with a revised and more balanced looking line rattled up 152 with team captain Richard Fredericks and Mohamed Hassan putting on 76 runs for the first wicket from 11 overs to set a solid foundation.

Fredericks was first to fall for 32 runs. Dorian Auguiste fell cheaply and then Hassan was out for 49 runs. Maxford Pipe notched 25 runs and Rodney Marryshow 16 not out. In reply, Steve Liburd took a liking to Irwin Lewis' pace and bounce early on before being brilliantly run out by Pipe.

Lewis though would return after two expensive overs to rip out the dangerous Keith Cornelius for 16 runs and bowl his last two overs for just 6 runs, including the 20th which went for four when 12 runs were required and secure an 8-run win as the chase ended on 144.

He finished with 2 for 34 after Fredericks and Marryshow had strangled the reply in the middle overs finishing with 2 for 32 and 1 for 20 respectively. Trent Belfon also bowled well before being unlucky to go for three boundaries in his final over, finishing a 3 over burst with 1 for 21.

The BVI started the tournament on Saturday shaky, losing to the Tremors, the eight-time champions from Dominica.

Tyron Theopile smashed his way to 86 of Dominica's  total of 193 for 7. Theopile in fact was the first wicket to fall with his team's total on 96, dragging on a short ball from Vaden Walker to be bowled at the start of the 9th over.

The BVI then rallied around the bowling of Fredericks, who finished 4 for 25 from his 4 overs as the Dominicans were restricted to 97 runs from the remaining 11 overs.

Maxford Pipe finished with 2 for 33.

In reply the BVI team finished on 119 with Pipe top scoring with 31, Dorian Auguiste added 28 and Mohamed Hasan, 22.

The BVICA congratulated the team coached by Charlie E. Jackson for their valiant effort and representing the Territory in an admirable way.

Notably, the BVICA is of the view that the tour proved more than anything that the BVI based players although individually on a par with other players on show, were at a disadvantage due to a lack of understanding of grass wickets and larger playing surfaces than they are used to at home.

Full Team: Richard Fredericks (captain), Vaden Walker, Maxford Pipe, Dorian Auguiste, Vishal Bharat, Cameron Williams, Jeunick Mingo, Trent Belfon, Irwin Lewis, Brent Defreitas, Mohamed Hassan, Rodney Marryshow and Collis Fraser.
