ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Despite 22 points from Franklyn Penn Junior, the USVI beat the BVI 89-70 last night, Friday June 19, 2015, in the CBC Men’s Championships, but the BVI still advanced to today's medal rounds.

The BVI were always chasing the game against their arch rivals and, although matched them for the early exchanges, were down just four at the end of the first quarter, 21-17, on some hot shooting by Halstead 'JR'  Chiverton.

The second quarter saw the USVI build on their momentum and conclude the first half eleven points up at 45-34.
The third quarter went much the same way with teams exchanging points, but more importantly the BVI were not able to reduce the deficit as the period ended 64-50 to the USVI.

In the fourth, the BVI did start to claw back, but the USVI proved just too strong down the stretch and ran out 89-70 winners.

Penn’s 22 led the BVI scorers by some way, with Chiverton and Steve E. Parillon both finishing with 12. Randy George finished with 8 rebounds to add to his 7 points and Kennedy H. Bass was kept quiet all night, suffering with a slight injury and only playing 13 minutes.

Khalid Hart top scored for the USVI with 20 points and Ivan Aska scored 19 with 9 rebounds.

Up next for the BVI is defending champions Bahamas, who won Group B with a 4-0 mark, whilst Group B winners , the USVI, 4-0, plays Antigua & Barbuda.

The winners will play for gold @ 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, the losers for bronze @ 6:45.

Playoff action starts at 11:45 this morning with the Cayman Islands and Guyana. At 2 p.m. will be St. Vincent and Bermuda followed by Barbados and Suriname at 4:15.

Bermuda lose to Antigua & Barbuda

Bermuda nearly pulled off another miracle, getting to within four of Antigua and Barbuda late in the fourth quarter after trailing by 19 in the third, before ultimately falling 71-64.

Antigua jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first, and although Bermuda came back to tie it at ten, Antigua steadily pulled away throughout the course of the game, leading 16-10 after the first quarter, 33-23 at halftime, and 55-44 after the third.

A floater by Yusef Riley at the 7:05 mark of the fourth capped off an overall 16-0 run by Bermuda, and got them to within three at 55-52. Antigua promptly stretched the lead back to eleven, 64-53, with 2:39 to play.

Bermuda had one more run in them, however. A Jason Lowe three-pointer with 31.8 seconds remaining brought Bermuda to within four at 68-64, but Antigua’s free-throw shooting over the final half-minute iced the game.

Ernest Scott led Antigua with 19 points. Jerome Richardson scored 14, Lennox McCoy had 13, and Kurt Looby pulled down 11 rebounds. Christopher Crumpler led Bermuda with 15. Sullivan Phillips added 13, Jason Lowe had 11, and Jonathan Lowe tallied 10.
