VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI – Officers of the Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) are investigating an armed robbery committed on a Virgin Gorda businessman in the early hours of Wednesday night, August 10, 2016.

According to the victim, he had just parked his car on reaching home when a gunman pounced. “I just came from my business and parked my car to go into my home when this guy with a gun came up to me, pointed a gun to my head, and demanded all the money I had,” the businessman related.

He said he had less than $1,000. “He just said pass the bag, pass the bag, pointing the gun at me and I gave it to him and he ran off,” he recalled.

The police were called in and they are currently investigating the matter.

The businessman expressed regret that young men of the community are resorting to such criminal activities.

“Brethren don’t have to be doing these things. I know they can do better and it’s is hurting to even think that these men doing this and, worse, to people they grow up around, people they know good, it’s just sad.”

my brother what needs to be done by the police is check to see who came off the ferry boat from vg that afternoon or maybe during the day, cause I don't think a youth from vg will do that, unless he covered his voice when asking for the money!

This govt has to become more serious about crime period and this is not a NDP or VIP thing, its the govt jobs to put police on the streets to ensure that those who care little about the country are not in a position to affect the country in such a negative way!!!!!!!

Its not a living resident doing it on VG. Its a traveler, last night ferry makes it easy access for the wayward traveler to be doing these things to the wonderful ppl of VG, its shameful.

Right at the man front door. The thief was probably watching the man. Now if the man had a gun and blasted the thief, he would be the one they lock up. Glad the man is ok.

Stop making excuses for the LAZY HUMAN GARBAGE doing these deeds over and over again . There is NEVER an excuse for these pathetic punks . We will either face facts and eliminate the problem or watch our territory degrade into just another warzone . Enough already and enough cowardice in dealing with the punks . MINIMUM 20 YEAR sentence for gun crimes and it does not matter who your daddy or uncle is. Stop this NOW . Show the next generation that we are a country of laws which are respected and enforced equally.

OMG! this robbery thing is now spilling over to VG on a little too often basis where the police officers don't get much done. It was a wise thing to just hand the brute the bag and don't resist/fight back, you are alive today. Great decision.

He did the right thing, give the thief the money. The money is already gone. The man will get back triple what the guy took from him. I bet the thief bought himself a pair of sneakers, some clothes and drugs.

Said by a friend recently, "We’ve got to be better than this. Surely fifty years of evolution and building the BVI is not just leading us to a life of crime
