ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise businesses (MSMEs) who registered for Government’s Small Business Sector Grant Relief Programme can expect their cheques starting Monday, September 14, 2020, Junior Minister for Trade and Economic Development, Hon Shereen D. Flax-Charles (AL) has announced.

Assisting Businesses, stimulating economy

Hon Flax-Charles, in a statement released today, September 11, 2020, said the Small Business Sector Grant Relief Programme that was established to assist Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, in meeting their operational expenditure, while stimulating economic activity by facilitating the circulation of money within the Territory.

“As part of the application process outlined in the Policy Guidelines, MSMEs were required to provide information on revenues and expenditures pre-COVID-19 and during the COVID-19 period to date. This information was used to calculate a value loss figure, which was important in determining the amount of funds a business is granted in a transparent, objective and equitable manner,” she said.

“I am pleased to report that on Monday, 14 September at 10:00 a.m., we invite you to join us for a virtual ceremony live on Facebook as we launch the COVID-19 stimulus payment of MSMEs who have qualified for this grant.”

Gov’t pleased to reach payout stage

Hon Flax-Charles said that the Government remains pleased to have reached the point to be able to make the financial assistance available as businesses have been looking forward to the stimulus.

“Additionally, we have made a provisional extension to the application process recognising that a small amount of our business persons faced significant difficulty with meeting the deadline for whatever reason.”

Businesses looking to meet this extension’s deadline are asked to contact the Department of Trade, Investment Promotion and Consumer Affairs at 468-4280 or via email using bvitrade@gov.vg.

Honorable Mitch Turnbull all the way. I am a strong supporter of the VIP and they have failed us. It is my fundamental rights to support a political party of my choice.

I even heard rumors that BVIslanders are living there too. This situation needs a thorough Investigation as soon as possible. By the way I might be 73 the way how things are going Rent prices skyrocketing no Jobs No Food. A survey needs to be done to see how People in general are making out because I can Imagine a lot of people are in Dire need.

Every I went to full out a form or get information for the small business stimulus they saying forms aren't ready, they changed forms, you have to go online or some runaround. Government are the cause of all these robberies, homicide, burglaries, woman out prostitution, illegal immigration, and dope selling. Borders are closed no money coming in,every time there's a curfew building up stress, what they think gonna happen. Over 47 million dollars to help 20 thousands adults and 25 thousands children for 6 months each adult could have gotten 10 gran with millions still left back but the government continues to play the people for fools with their hidden secret agenda. Now look at the domino effect that you all the leaders caused on society. You all choose to play around with the people's wealth instead of meeting the needs of the health struggle crises.
