ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - A Dominican Republic national who appeared before the Magistrate's Court, yesterday August 15, 2012, pleaded guilty to charges of causing actual bodily harm and destroying property; a burglary charge which he pleaded not guilty to was dismissed and dropped by the court as requested by the Crown, after the man stated that he lived there.

It is alleged that on July 25, 2012, Pablo DelaCruz got into an altercation while in an argument with his girlfriend who lived in Huntums Ghut, this resulted in her taking his phone and throwing it on the ground, damaging the screen.

Allegedly, Mr. DelaCruz, picked up the damaged phone and threw it at the Virtual Complainant’s (VC) head, causing a small laceration at the back.

Court records further stated that on August 6, 2012, the defendant and the VC, living together, got into another argument and the man left the house. It stated that the man allegedly came back later that night and took up the VC’s phone and damaged her Ipod.

In mitigation to the facts brought against him by Crown Counsel Representative Leslie-Ann Faulkner, he asked the court to provide a way of installments for him to pay for the damages.

Magistrate Tamia Richards placed Mr. DelaCruz on a $40,000 bail with 2 sureties.

He is expected to surrender his travel documents and report to the Road Town police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The matter was adjourned until September 17, 2012.
