ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Rescued animals were the victims of a burglary that took place in Johnson’s Ghut, Tortola, on Tuesday night, July 21, 2020.

According to the Humane Society of the BVI on its Facebook page, the lone burglar broke into the shelter’s office and stole money from some ticket sales for an upcoming event.

“This area is separate to the animals. The shelter is under immense pressure to not only run this facility and care for the animals but also the task of building a new shelter,” the Humane Society of the BVI stated.

The burglar was caught on surveillance camera and a still image of the suspect with face covered was shared on social media.

“Hard to recognise this person but if you have any idea please let us know so we can forward to the police. Thank you,” the animal shelter stated.

It added that only last week it flew 10 dogs to a new life but within 3 days 5 adult dogs and 2 cats came in “but we keep going because we are dedicated to animal welfare.”

I don't even leave change in my car and you left money in a place that look like a child can break into? Look at the burglars clothes, shoes and skin tone which is light. Someone might recognize something even with a mask on.

That’s a desperate person, if you catch him then you solve many other burglaries. What is that around his wrist? If that’s a tattoo, then case solve.
