ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Postmortem results have confirmed that it was a bullet piercing the heart of Paul Prentice that resulted in his death as he was gunned down on December 14, 2014 in full view of families enjoying their Sunday evening in down town Road Town.

The forensic post mortem carried out on Prentice over the weekend showed that he died from a single gunshot wound to the heart. The pathologist confirmed that he expired seconds after receiving the fatal wound. This is according to a press release from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Public Relations Unit.

Paul Prentice, 22, of Duff’s Bottom, was pronounced dead at the scene following a shooting incident on Waterfront Drive on Sunday, December 14 around 7:15pm.

Several persons, who spoke with this news site following the daring and suspected deliberate deadly act, said that the sounds of what appeared to have been gun shots were heard as far as the Road Town Ferry Dock sending persons running for cover.

“It sounded like shots were fired close by but I didn’t see anything but I run for shelter because I was sure it was gun shots and bullet got a way of straying and I was not going to be caught in that, it sounded very near,” said a taxi driver.

In the mean time the RVIPF is diligent in their efforts to bring justice to the young man’s family in the most recent release of the RVIPF officers of the RVIPF Major Crime Team were joined by Neighbourhood officers as they revisited the scene exactly one week to the date and time after Paul Prentice’s murder to canvas as well as to reassure the community of their general safety in the Road Town area.

“Yesterday evening, (Sunday December 21) officers distributed leaflets asking for information that could assist with the murder investigation from anyone who may have been in or around one of the businesses prior to and during the time of the murder,” the release said.

It further stated that Acting Detective Inspector Vernon Larocque, who heads the investigation, says the exercise was intended both to restore a sense of calm and security in the local area and to appeal to those who could help in advancing the investigation.

“We know that the ice cream parlour is very popular for families particularly on a Sunday evening. We also know there are churches in the area that hold evening services. Our hope is that the incident on Sunday will not discourage persons from coming out as usual and enjoying family time,” he said in the release.

Larocque noted that officers also used the opportunity to canvas businesses and homes in the area to get the help needed to progress the investigation into Prentice’s murder. “We know a number of persons were in or around the area at the time of the incident. We need more than hearsay; we need persons that would go on record as to what they saw or heard,” he added.

Very handsome young man with such a lovely smile. So sorry that he was taken away from his family and loved ones so suddenly and at such a young age. To the family, seek God and you will be given all the answers. They will catch the person who did this.

there is not enough police in the road town area at night; there should be a greater presence of the police in the road town area during the hours-of-darkness; during the day-time 4/5 police can be seen walking together in our city handing out traffic tickets(come night not one, that is bad) most of the crimes happens during the night. as a matter of fact I have seen cars operating in road town at night without lights..a few years ago there were frequent stop-and-search operations by the police(that no longer happens)the so called bad-man them know they could run-around with these guns because the chance of being intercepted by law enforcement is very slim(bring back the police searches, if you have nothing to hide the operations of the police will not be a problem to you)gun crime is a very serious matter and it will only get worst if the police do not try to prevent it...the police have 2 functions (1) the detection of crime (2) the prevention of crime...you mostly see the police in your village after a crime is committed(trying to detect who did it) BUT you never see them simply driving though your village to in an effort to prevent crime...we need a greater presence of the police during the night.....talk that !!!!

Don't tell me that BVI don't have CCTVS down town and in several strategic areas. It won't cost the govt nor the police force much. COME ON THESE are modern days with the advancement in science and technology you got to go with the flow as the criminal are doing especially with their smartphones and other devices. So get with it NDP
