ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Julan “Iron Fist” Brown defeated Miquel “Iron Dog” Raye, in the 3rd Round of their Middleweight bout at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Road Town on Wednesday August 31, 2016.

Raye, who like Brown hails from Jamaica, had already taken a mandatory '8 count’ from referee Milton Creque in the second round (of ten) and was down again early in the third following a series of crunching body blows by Brown.

Some more pummeling against the ropes by Brown and it was all over for Raye as the Referee stepped in to stop the fight.

“I’m very happy, he was a tough opponent, but I landed some hard hits and it was enough,” commented Brown.

‘I never quit!’

Raye was slightly more philosophical in defeat and confused as to why the referee had stepped in so soon.

“He caught me a punch in my solar plexus and I took a knee in the third round, but was surprised when the ref stopped the fight. I’m a Boxer, a fighter and I never quit. The second time I went down it was because I slipped and I got up quickly, but the referee decided to stop the fight soon after that.”

Meanwhile, Brown said he could have finished the bout earlier but he prolonged it to ensure the audience got a show for their dollar.

“Well this is Iron Fist, and although the hits look soft to the audience they are hard in the ring. Only his head his hard, not his body. I wanted to finish it sooner, but I didn’t want people to waste their money so had to put on a show,” concluded Brown.

Other results

The first bout of the night was won by Romario Morgan, who beat Shiloh Dawson in the second round of their match by another technical knockout, following a series of crushing body shots.

Keyinde Mackintosh then won a points decision, in the second match of the night, against Eric Massicot after three punishing rounds in the ring. The first round had been evenly matched, but it was a first fight for Massicot and he struggled to get his feet moving.

McKintosh got the decision 58- 54 from the two ringside Judges, Garth Hewlett and Ehad Tarabay.

And then Shomari Chinnery decided to not to come out for the third round against Yakita Oska from Antigua. Chinnery, having made the more aggressive start to the bout, had taken some big hits in the second round after being pinned in the corner.

After taking a mandatory count and having got back to his corner at the bell, Chinnery decided enough was enough.

The tickets were too expensive, I wanted to go but when I heard $50.00 and school is opening next week, I decided not to do it. Next time charge $25.00 build the public interest then you can increase as you attract big time boxers. Don't think about quick money with a developing sport; develop the sport then charge its worth.

I would have like to go to the boxing, it should have been on a weekend not the middle of the week. Hope next time it will be held on a weekend, I am sure more people will attend.

Not interested in "jams" and stuff like fashion shows...this was the most entertained I've been since living 20+ years in the bvi, only the price needs to be adjusted but it's a start.

Thank you for the awesome entertainment and making your own path
