Brothers arrested after high-speed chase; Drugs found
ST. CROIX, USVI — A traffic stop performed by the USVIPD on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, yielded two arrests along with ammunition and marijuana, USVIPD Public Information Officer, Glen Dratte has announced.
The traffic stop occurred at 6:07 pm by the force’s Special Operations Bureau in the Sion Farm area. The vehicle, which had no license plate, was stopped by the officers, who then made contact with the driver, Kimani A. Chiverton. Police asked Mr Chiverton to produce registration documents, instead, Mr Chiverton drove off at a high rate of speed in an attempt to elude police, Mr Dratte said.
Officers maintained visual with the vehicle and followed it onto a driveway to a residence in the area. Once the vehicle came to a stop, the officers observed a male individual, who was later identified as Gyasi Chiverton exiting the vehicle’s passenger front door and took off running.
Kimani was immediately detained. Gyasi ran into the residence, prompting officers to immediately set up a perimeter around it. Police were able to secure a search warrant.
Marijuana found
After conducting the search, police found 32 live 9mm rounds and a large amount of marijuana in a room that was later identified as Gyasi Chiverton’s room.
Both brothers were arrested with Kimani Chiverton, 24, being placed under arrest for interfering with an officer discharging his duty. His bail was set at $1,000.
The investigation revealed that 21-year-old Gyasi Chiverton was not authorized to possess or sell ammunition in the territory.
Gysai was placed under arrest for unauthorized possession or sale of ammunition, and possession of an uncontrolled substance with intent to distribute. His bail was set at $10,000. Both Chiverton brothers were remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Correctional Facility.
