ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Service to the public was reportedly interrupted at the Department of Trade, Investment Promotion and Consumer Affairs this afternoon, May 9, 2016 after an AC unit malfunctioned.

According to reports reaching Virgin Islands News Online, the broken AC affected the bottom floor of Sebastien's Building in Road Town, Tortola.

Director of the Department of Trade, Investment Promotion and Consumer Affairs, Karia J. Christopher confirmed to Virgin Islands News Online that there was a problem with the Air Conditioning (AC) system in the building and said it would be fixed by tomorrow, May 9, 2016.

Christopher denied that work at the Department was disrupted as a result of the AC unit malfunctioning.

A visit to the Department after 2pm, however, revealed that the cashier section, located on the bottom floor of Sebastien's Building, had been closed.

A notice read: "Please be advised that the cashiers will be closed until further notice. Any queries please proceed to the second floor. We do apologise for the inconvenience caused."

It was on April 8, 2016 that the Air-Conditioning (AC) system in the Central Administration Complex on Wickham's Cay I malfunctioned again, forcing workers to operate with fans and opened windows while technicians worked to get the system back up and running.

According to a senior source in the Treasury Department, service to the public was stopped due to the department being without AC.

Everything falling apart under this NDP white-collar gang. Signs are showing up everywhere. No comprehensive preventative maintenance plans; too busy spending on their own interests on the backs of our people.

This government is unfair I don't understand why other government departments are being forced to work in the same environment while others get to go home. Civil servants Job description/contract says their working condition is an air condition environment. Why other departments are being force to work in uncomfortable situations for over 3 years now. extreme heat and mols. Not only the workers are being forced to work like that but imagine it's a service department the serves the members of public daily including kids their biggest stake holders ---- Its a crying shame
