ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Recently hailed as the best public service in the world, by President of the Virgin Islands Civil Service Association (VICSA) Ms Tasha K. Bertie, public service workers are encouraged to get together as the Virgin Islands observes Public Service week from June 2, 2013.

The first activity will be a church service at the New Testament Church of God International Worship Centre at 3 P.M. and will also feature the official opening ceremony.

"As we are accustomed to doing, I want to encourage all public officers to exhibit the team spirit and their go-getter attitude to the general public and among the teams what the public service is all about," Ms Bertie challenged.

She said public servants are a dynamic group of individuals who are willing to go above and beyond the call of duty in their service to the community. "And this week is one opportunity to exhibit this to the entire BVI community," she added.

Ms Bertie added she anticipates an exciting week of activities and great fellowship and camaraderie among Public Servants but is rooting for her team "Warriors" to emerge champions of the competitions.

Former president of VICSA, Mr Wendel M. Gaskin at a recent CSA Forum had alluded to the importance of public servants to work and play hard equally.

As is customary, the activities of Public Service Week 2013, which runs from June 2 to 10 under the theme, “Bridging the Gap: Setting the Pace for 2013 and Beyond!”, is opened to the general public and persons are invited to support each activity and event by coming out in their numbers.

On Monday June 3, a pep-rally will be held from the grounds of the Central Administration Building to the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground. This will be followed by the cheer leading and track and field competition.

Public Service Week, which is observed annually, will also see government ministries, departments and statutory bodies competing in various sporting activities such as softball, basketball, bowling, scrabble and dominoes. This year's open house will be held at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex on June 5 from 10 A.M to 3 P.M.

New to the schedule of activities is the Employee Feud at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall on June 4 at 5:30 p.m. and the Talent Extravaganza, including a modelling segment on work appropriate wear on June 9 at 3 P.M. at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall. Additionally, a public officer who was chosen for a UMI makeover will be revealed on that day.

In addition to the sporting activities, on Thursday, June 6 the Health Fair will be held on the grounds of the Central Administration Building from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. and the annual recognition ceremony, which recognises officers for years of service, will be held at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium, HLSCC, at 6 P.M.

The public is encouraged to come out and support public officers as they compete in the various events.

Public Service Week is held annually to highlight the contribution of the public service to the Territory’s development and to give members of the public an opportunity to gain a better appreciation and understanding of the work of the Public Service.

The hands of JUSTICE must be viewed and remain as unbiased to all, until the moral in the service will remain at an all tie low

Excellent effort Tasha. Keep up the hard work. There are more of us with you guys than against despite the lack of respect from those entities who over the public service & honouring their political party's wish rather than what's best for the service.

Good job Tasha & company except G. He has got to get out of the service. He has no respect, his mouth is foul, he is a political mischief maker & he cares about the NDP's success whether it is done ethically or not rather than caring for the public service's success in a transparent & fair manner.

Myron could host a $100,000 dinner for one night & don't appologise for it but he & his NDP has not appologised nor care about giving the Public servants back the full increment they took from us when they took office in 2011-2012 their first year. This is evil & I will never forget them for it.

Even to Wilson Wilson a mere airport consultant is getting treated better & paid better than the public servants & he ain't doing nothing because the project he is isn't going anywhere. We the public servants have been & continue to be disrespected by this NDP government & the D....G is of no help to the service but just to the wishes of her NDP.

How you mean you ain't get your increments back? If you subtract the funds paid despite reporting to work late, taking an hour for breakfast, 2 hours for lunch, spending all day on the Government phones talking about everybody, and leaving work at 4:20 everyday, all you would be left with is your increment.
