Bregado Flax Educational Centre Fourth Graders Explore BVI Cruise Tourism
Twelve students from the grade four class had the opportunity to experience the different activities and services that are offered on-board a cruise ship. The gleeful students toured and experienced the pool, game room, theatre, safety area, children’s centre and various restaurants.
“Tourism is one of the main industries in the BVI, so I think that it is very important to have the children exposed to every aspect of the Tourism Industry. I have always incorporated tourism into my Social Studies syllabus to help raise awareness for the students about the tourism industry in the BVI and the job opportunities it possesses,” said Ms. Beryl Vanterpool, Grade Four Teacher at the Bregado Flax Educational Centre. “One of my mottos is ‘education is not limited to the classroom it can happen anywhere’ and today it happened on the cruise ship, which added a unique aspect for the children as this was the first time many of them have had the opportunity to be on-board a cruise ship.”
Persons on the cruise ship tour included, twelve grade four students from Bregado Flax Educational Centre Primary School, Ms. Beryl Vanterpool, Grade Four Teacher; Ms. Shona Riley, Parent of grade four student; Kyle Harrigan, BVI Tourist Board Representative; and Ms. Crystall Kanyuck, Reporter for BVI Beacon.
Bregado Flax Educational Centre, Ms. Beryl Vanterpool and the fourth grade students would like to give special thanks to Mr. Myron Walwyn, Minister for Education and Culture; Ms. Sharon Flax-Mars, Director of Tourism and Mrs. Shereen Flax-Charles, Sister Islands Manager for helping to make the cruise ship tour possible.
