LONG LOOK, Tortola VI- It was on Saturday May 6, 2017 around 10:20 PM that 22 year old Shaun H. Richards was said to be sitting outside his home in Long Look on Tortola when a lone gunman allegedly came up to him and fired at least 2 gun shots at him.

Mr Richards, a Virgin Islander, succumbed to his injuries a few days later at Peebles Hospital.

To date, police are still conducting investigations and one man was held for questioning but was reportedly released. It is also our understanding that the body of the young man has not been released by the state for funeral arrangements.

5 murders in 5 months, VI History

Mr Richards’ murder brings to five homicides this year in the Virgin Islands (VI), which has a population of less than 35,000 people, with four from guns and one allegedly from big rocks unleashed to the head of one victim Alston E. Penn in March.

As recent as April 16, 2017, Jefferson Joseph, was gunned down near the CSY Dock in Baughers Bay.

On March 10, 2017 Ashburn A. Dawson aka ‘Ashy’ of Carrot Bay on Tortola was cut down by gun shots close to the Sunday Morning Well.

Additionally, on January 6, 2017 businessman Frankly J. Fahie was murdered by a lone gunman in Long Look.

how a man going be in his own home at the wrong place and wrong time. If he was on the street then that's something else. But if a person is not safe in their own yard, then we all in trouble.

Am indeed saddened by the course of violence occurring here in the BVI! Where is the so called UK police? What has the new Commissioner done that others have not?

@ in the news: when I asked such questions some folks think that I have something against the police: the opposition members quick to stand in the sittings and beat up on the current administration BUT not one of them speak about a plan to fix crimes or questions the commissioners BUT the local politicians are put on full blast for poor leadership

A clean and streamlined BVIslander is what is needed to be the Police Commissioner; is that too much to ask. I hope in my lifetime
