Body found floating in St. John USVI, Investigation launched

CRUZ BAY, St. John, USVI — The United States Virgin Islands (USVI) Police Department is investigating the cause of death of a man found floating in the ocean near the National Park Visitors Center in Cruz Bay on Thursday morning, March 23, 2019.

Body found Floating

According to USVIPD Public Information Officer, Glen Dratte, officers were dispatched to the area at about 6:17 am and upon their arrival, a body was found floating in the water in Cruz Bay and was brought to shore by personnel of St. John Rescue.

The victim was a White male, with Mr Dratte stating that he had no identification on his person. “The cause of death is unknown pending a medical examiner’s finding. We are presently talking to residents, hotels and canvassing the community to find information on anyone missing,” Mr Dratte said.

Mr Dratte said the incident is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau and the USVIPD is currently looking for leads.
