ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - UMI Fashions has announced the return of its long awaited and anticipated series of Funky Fashion Fridays: The Battle of the Corps (BOC) Fashion Showdown “Choose it or Lose it!” as they respond to popular demand.

UMI Fashions said it is continuing its trend of showcasing the hottest up and coming fashion and entertaining with fantastic surprises on an evening filled with laughter and good company.

Since 2006 when the first series made its debut with an audience of over 800 people, the show continues to receive rave reviews from its audiences and is now one of the most talked about events in UMI’s history.

The last Company to hold the coveted title of Battle of the Corps Catwalk Champs was The BVI Electricity Corporation. UMI now announces the new series of Funky Fashion Fridays, BOC which is set to begin on October 25, 2013 at 5 P.M. at the UMI storefront.

Ms Deborah O’Neal explained, “this time around we are coming with an even bigger and better showdown. This year our audiences are not going to have the ability to view this spectacular event in person, but the Ultimate Catwalk only Showdown will also be streamed via live feed online and on television. In an effort to extend ourselves to include all sectors and corporations in the British Virgin Islands, Government, Statutory bodies, as well as companies on the Sister Islands will also be given the opportunity to participate,” she said.

The BOC series will extend until December 6, 2013 as three companies will compete bi-weekly for the coveted Battle of the Corps title. The winner from the previous show moves on to meet two new companies the following week. This will all lead up to the Ultimate Catwalk Showdown that will take place in December. All shows will be judged by a panel of three judges, but the determining and ultimate judge will be the crowd support.

Judging Criteria

Creativity in opening Number: 20 points

Group Coordination: 15 points

Selection of Clothing within the specified time (1 hour for selection): 15 points

Crowd support: 50 points

According to Ms O’Neal, designers whose clothing are featured at the UMI store will present their new line of clothing for the event, which will be available at a significantly reduced cost immediately following each BOC showcase. UMI said they are excited to continue this community-building event as they celebrate the professional relationship with sponsors, designers, the media and fans.

Ms O’Neal said that it is also not too late for companies to sign up for what can be an effective team building exercise. Teams wishing to sign up can contact UMI at 284 494 3482 or email umifashionsbvi@gmail.com.

Beauty comes in all sizes. Even the fashion weeks have embraced this fact. Recently at the Paris Fashion week, designer Rick Owens opted for Step Dancers to model his 2014 Spring & Summer Collection. The crowd loved it.
