ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Proprietor of Bobby’s Supermarket, Mr Elton Leonard, has confirmed that the Road Town location has indeed been closed for renovation but declined to answer questions about whether the location would be sold.

No time period was given for the extent of the closure for renovations.

A sign indicating the closure of the store was erected sometime around August 24, 2013 much to the disappointment of unsuspecting customers.

It remains to be seen whether the closure would be permanent or whether the business would change hands as when contacted Mr Leonard would not comment on this.

Bobby’s also has two other locations, in Cane Garden Bay and at Nanny Cay, which remain open for the moment. The proprietor also runs the UP’s Cineplex establishment which is also located in Road Town.

Suspicion was rife for weeks that Leonard was experiencing legal troubles and would be forced to sell the business but he would only respond repeatedly, “I don’t want no story run on it” when asked about this.

except that he is over-extended with a bad mega-building and poor business plan.

Poor management is correct! As the owner of a business you have to be able to trust people, hire diligent staff and be able to delegate! How can one person want to 'over see' the day to day activies from dusk to dawn... it cant work with the size business and many branches Mr. Leonard have...

I was going to put a similar comment up - this is not only unprofessional but disrespectful to his loyal customers to scribble a sign on a used cardboard box. Totally tasteless

I was thinking the same thing... I could have made the sign for him. *Sigh* So simple; but speaks volumes.

Bobbys supplies provisions to many people; those on boats, those staying at rentals, and at resorts. They
put together orders of many things for people visiting the BVI. They did a wonderful job for me when I
visited Jost and had the villa stocked in advance of my stay. I was planning on them doing same this year.
What is going on with the good things in the BVI all of a sudden going 'plop'? Is this pressure being put on
the BVI over this international tax thing, like foreign pressure - or is it from within the people there? So
many good things seem to be having really bad problems. Most concerned...

People of the BVI, Bobbys is closed for renovations. Let me enlighten you'l about supermarkets, in order for them to be UP to the Time, at some point they have to upgrade thier stores...Bobbys is just a little behind in the process, but Elton has done what he has to do durng the slow period in the BVI....knowing Elton, Bobbys will be back on track when he re-opens. Him, his nephew and all his faithful workers will have that store booming again. This has nothing to do with the government or anything like that. Its something all supermarkets has to do. And when it opens you'll would have more options, from having Rite Way kill you'll with their ridiculous prices.....Hope youll have a good Day.

we Virgin Islanders need to pray for the owners of Bobbies. Decrease the hate and increase the faith for once and for all.

I agree. Bobby's has been in service for so many years and has served the public diligently every day. Show some respect for the owners and wish them the best people. Bobby's is the place I send everyone to for a good and reasonably priced meal when they cannot afford restaurants. I hope they do re-open but if not, I wish them well and thank them for everything they gave us including the only movie, bowling, skating rink in the entire BVI.

Elton, we are with you my brother. Come back and hit them hard with your renovations.....the "Wrong" Way supermarket killing us with EXTREMELY HIGH PRICES....we need a place like Bobby's that don't kill his people. I aint mind the noise though I thought we needed proper notice.

Proper notice to their customers would've been greatly appreciated. It's not very nice going to the store only to be greeted with a ghetto looking sign telling us the store closed for reno. Advanced notice would've been the decent way to go

IF MR. LEONARD IS READING THIS, I AM APPEALING TO YOU TO PLEASE FIX THAT EYE SORE OF A WALL AT THE BACK OF THE SUPER MARKET. I am actually a supporter of Bobby's because you have bailed my out many nights when the others were closed and you tend to carry certain items that the others also do not carry. So I want to see you prosper; but I will not support you at the expense of my health. So PLEASE!!! Fix that problem first. Get sanitary before you get all fancy. Please! Thanks.

Thx u!!!! It's very unsanitary & smells just as bad. I don't understand how they allowed that area to deteriorate so bad & to make matters worse it's smack in the road so everybody sees it, visitors and residents alike. I hope the clean up of that area is part of the reno
