ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- (Posted: 2:30pm) Basil Prescott aka "Blade", who was charged with allegedly being armed with an offensive weapon and wounding with intent, was today March 21, 2012 found not guilty of all the charges in the High Court.

Prescott was accused of chopping Lauren Walwyn with a machete following an altercation on August 25, 2011 at Sandbox Road.

He was found not guilty by a unanimous verdict by the nine-member jury. Following the verdict, Justice Rita Olivetti told Prescott that he was a lucky man.

The court heard that there was an altercation involving Prescott's girlfriend and family and Walwyn's girlfriend and family during which Prescott had allegedly become involved and told Walwayn's girlfriend to call Walwyn.

Walwyn allegedly arrived minutes after and it was during this time he was allegedly wounded with a machete. It was claimed that Walwyn after being wounded ran with Prescott in pursuit.

The trial opened on March 15, 2012 with Kezia Carey taking to the stand after Police Constable Michel Etienne who said he took photographs of the area where the incident allegedly occurred. He also said he visited the defendant at Peebles Hospital where one multi-colour boxer and jeans were given to him by the nurse on duty and he subsequently tendered it into evidence.

The virtual complaint Lauren Walwyn took to the stand the following day and insisted he was not the aggressor in the incident, which allegedly resulted in him being wounded.

Also called to the stand by the Crown were Kyana Carey of Sandbox Road and Marcia Williams.

Prescott was represented by Patrick Thompson while Jude Hanley represented the Crown.

More details to follow.
