ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The 2nd exhibition match in the BVI Cricket Association’s High School Cricket Initiative, resulted in a crushing 57 run victory for Bregado Flax Educational Centre (BFEC) against Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) on Friday June 8, 2012.

The match, organised by the BVICA, followed on from the first game at HLSCC which saw the ESHS team rattle up a 48 run win over debutants St. Georges High School and is part of a drive to establish a proper league for the schools later this year.

The initiative spearheaded by BVICA President Shan Mohammed, is a natural extension of the highly successful WICB/Digicel Grassroots Programme which has targeted 11-17 year old youths in a development programme and now has well over 30 registered players.

Mohammed, who attended the match played on the recreation ground in Virgin Gorda, explained he was pleased to see the renewed interest in the game being shown. “I am looking forward to seeing the students play more cricket in the near future,” he said.

After congratulating the winning BFEC team, Mohammed also promised a return match on Tortola.

BFEC won the toss and decided to bat first making good use of their 15 overs in rattling up 126.

Anthony Antoine scored 32 and Anthony Bridgewater contributed 17, whilst the bowling for Elmore Stoutt was led by Orlando Savory’s 3 for 21 off 3 overs. Chetwin Bagot picked up 3 for 24 off his 3. Kadesh Talle, 2 for 34, and skipper Ian Sampson, 1 for 15.

In reply, Bregado Flax sent Elmore Stoutt crashing to 69 all out, to win convincingly by 57 runs. Bagot, in a fine all round performance, made a fighting 21 and Diondre Davis chipped in with 15. Talle with 8 was the next highest scorer, as the ESHS top order crumbled against tight bowling and superb fielding by the host.

Leading the bowling for BFEC were Baisoo Silchand 3 for 27 off 3 overs, Jolyon Wilson 2 for 10 off 2 overs, Yash Banthia 2 for 15 off 2 overs, and Brandon Walters 1 for 17 off 4 overs.

Apart from the support of the schools, the match was made possible by the help of Bucks Supermarket, who supplied water and ice along with "Voices" who supplied the Gatorade.

Milton McLean assisted with the transportation for the ESHS Team and definitely is the friendliest taxi driver in town.

The BVICA offset the cost of the Ferry for the ESHS team and will be looking at ways in which they can provide further assistance for the High School League.
