NORTH SOUND, Virgin Gorda, VI – The Bitter End Yacht Club and Resort (BEYC) came in for high praise when its owner Mr Richard Hokin recently announced a $100, 000 donation towards the health care facilities on Virgin Gorda.

This welcomed announcement was made on Friday evening, February 27, 2015 at the resort’s 40th Anniversary celebrations. “… The community is one of the main reasons we’re here and its wellbeing has been and will continue to be a key part of Bitter End’s future, so tonight  I’d like to announce that our family is pledging $100,000 to support the BVI Health Services Authority’s activities in Virgin Gorda,” said Mr Hokin.

He further said a portion of the commitment would be immediately provided to fund the purchase of capital equipment for Virgin Gorda’s two clinics while the balance will be released as a challenge grant over the following four years.

According to several of the resort’s employees who were on the spot as part of the service party and equally part of the celebrations, they intend to engage management in discussions about their lobbying for the government to expeditiously move forward with the construction of the promised new health care facility on the island.

“The clinics are important yes, [but] we still need especially the one at North Sound but we also want a hospital here and the politicians keep promising and we are not seeing anything,” Mr Flax, one of the guests at the anniversary celebrations, stated while several other employees gave their approval.

Present at the time of Mr Hokin’s announcement were Deputy Premier Dr the Honourable Kedrick D. Pickering, Chief Executive Officer of the BVI Health Services Authority Mrs Darlene Carty-Baptiste and 9th District Representative Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE among a few others.

Premier Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith, who later arrived for the event, personally expressed his gratitute to Mr Hokin and the Bitter End Yacht Club.

What were they saying about these pesky rich investors again? LOL! If our politicians weren't so damn selfish we would have much more donations. Many donations are made but to whom? Good job Mr. Hokins, we thank you! If we can get 10 more wealthy investors on board that would be a great thing. Government cannot do it all by themselves.

The benefits we provided to them to operate here in the BVI, we should not have to ask for donations. They have a social responsibility to the community. He should just release the money and not know bait and switch tactic.

and some of these $400 mil resorts only donate $10,000 to the community centre while getting hundreds of acres and concessions. Government needs to demand more compensation. Thank you, Mr. Hokin, for your old school generosity. Step up new investors!!

I think that all those well established cacausians who were given the opportunity to gain so much acres of land in our beautiful islands should invest a lot of funds for something that all us locals can benefit from and they themselves which is the hospital that is so needed for that area. A lot of persons will get upset, but we have to realize that the government cannot sustain a lot of the issues we are facing especially when our people always want financial handouts.
