ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The British Overseas Territory of Bermuda and the Virgin Islands [British] have many things in common.

Last week one of their elected Members of the House of Assembly came to the Virgin Islands (VI) on a private visit. He is Honourable Thomas C. Famous JP MP, whose mother is June Fraser-Famous and was raised on Tortola. Hon Famous’ grandmother is also the elder sister of Hon Julian Fraser RA, who is the Third District Representative.

The first term Parliamentarian represents the Devonshire East Constituency No. 11 and was first elected on July 18, 2017 with the now ruling Bermuda Progressive Labour Party (PLP).

Strong family ties in the VI

Honourable Famous’ grandmother was the late Amay Fraser who was born in the VI. Mr Famous, who is a Belonger of the VI and born in Bermuda, was a long shot in the Bermuda elections where the first timer was up against the then powerful veteran Deputy Premier, Minister of Finance and Deputy Leader of the former ruling One Bermuda Alliance (OBA) Everard Bob Richards.

Mr Famous defeated Mr Richards by 513 votes to 419 in last year’s election.

The Belonger, while in the British Overseas Territory of the VI on his private visit, attended a funeral of a family member and also witnessed the 2018 Budget Address delivered by Premier and Minister of Finance Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith (AL) as he was invited by the Speaker of the House of Assembly Hon Ingrid A. Moses-Scatliffe.

Private visit with family & Friends

He also visited family Members, including his uncles Honourable Julian Fraser RA and former Legislator Earl P.  Fraser, along with his friend of twenty years, Mr Julian Willock.

Hon Famous’ PLP took some 24 out of 36 seats with the remaining 12 going to the OBA headed by Hon Michael H. Dunkley in the July 2017 general elections. The Premier of Bermuda is Hon Edward D. Burt.

Mr Famous also writes an opinion column from time to time for Virgin Islands News Online.

Do unto others as you would have them do onto you. The truth is if this MP had done something really bad most of you would have distanced yourself from him saying things like "oh he was only raised here" and things like that. BVI only know you when you get a bit of fame then they all over you . If Mr.Walwyn becomes famous or do some act warrants international recognition you all will forget the Antigua saga.
