ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The man who was shot while at a social event at Long Bay Beach, Beef Island on May 16, 2016 has been discharged from hospital and is said to be recovering well.

Virgin Islander Kareem A. Durante aka ‘Blocker’, 28, of Belle Vue on the main Island of Tortola, suffered a gunshot to the back, which allegedly exited his body, a story first and accurately reported by Virgin Islands News Online.

Following the shooting, Durante was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Peebles Hospital with damages to the lungs and liver as a result of the gunshot.

Sources close to the family of Durante have since confirmed that the injured man has since been discharged from Peebles Hospital and is on the road to recovery.

The incident, which had occurred sometime around 9pm at a social event that was headlined by a popular local band, also resulted in a female being injured as persons rushed for cover following the shooting.

“Upon hearing the shots the crowd scattered, causing a girl to fall and got trampled on. She too was taken to hospital but seems to be coming around,” a source had told this newsroom.

It is not clear the condition of the girl who was reportedly injured.

Police Information Officer Diane Drayton had confirmed the shooting and said investigations were ongoing, however, it is unclear whether anyone was arrested or charged.
