‘Be there for all not only for chosen favourites’ – North Sound, VG residents
Because of several obvious reasons the distraught official has asked not to be named. He was at the time expressing his disgust at the way some schools, organizations and individuals are allegedly being singled out for attention and accolades while others are being ignored.
In this instance the officer was highlighting the apparent deliberate absence of Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Myron V. Walwyn from the graduation ceremony of the North Sound Primary School - Robinson O’Neal Memorial Primary, on Virgin Gorda (VG).
“For two years straight the Minister has not been showing up. It’s always Dr. [Thomas] Alexander coming with some lame excuse but the sad thing everyone else having his presence and even getting unjustified gifts,” said the man.
He further stated, “I work around him (Hon Walwyn) and I know he could have fit them in at least this year in his schedule but it’s obvious the Principal is not one of his favourites.”
Similar sentiments came for residents who were at the recently held Graduation Exercise which they said saw a full turnout to celebrate with the children. She said Ninth District Representative Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal OBE was present and so were representatives of Bitter End who have adopted the school, Sister Islands Coordinator Mr Vincent Wheatley among others.
“We have five representatives, five not one not two not three but five and not one could have show up for the children of North Sound. It’s a shame, shame, shame… they got the Premier, the Minister for Health, Minister for Education, Deputy Premier and not even one present,” said a resident.
One teacher said that the obvious absence of certain stakeholders did not go un-noticed by Hon O’Neal as he said he did make mention of it in his speech.
“Hon O’Neal in his address asked the question of where were the many so-called stakeholders, it was that obvious and the children too look at that because they look forward to taking picture, shaking hands and these little things with leaders and they have been deprived of this for two years straight,” said the teacher.
Several efforts to reach the Principal of the school Ms Norma Creque proved futile.

If only we can all stop bringing politics into our schools, the students would be much better off. I am actually quite disappointed in Hon. O'Neal taking the focus off of the students' accomplishments to play political games at such an "important" milestone marking event for his own people of North Sound. Quite selfish I would say.
job. During his time as representative Virgin Gorda went from one Nurse in her home to two clinics on the island with a dedicated, hard working team of doctors, nurses and other personnel but wait I want to see your man convince Tortola that VG should have a hospital be it mini, small, medium or large before them. Stop trying to force feed the people crap!
