ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Two callers to the 3D Show on 780 AM ZBVI with host Doug Wheatley on Friday December 2, 2016 were of the view that the infamous Glenn ‘Supa cop’ Callwood, who has dominated the airwaves and roadways for his aggressive enforcement of the traffic laws, to act in a more professional manner and to be more understanding.

Close to one month ago, November 7, 2016 Mr Callwood was reinstated to the force. He had been interdicted from duty after being found guilty of indecent assault.

Since his return to the roadways with the blessings of Police Commissioner Michael ‘Mick’ Matthews and Governor John S. Duncan OBE, Mr Callwood has been issuing tickets like they were going out of style to erring motorists and other road users.

While many seem pleased for the national shake-up, some are not so pleased with the manner in which Mr Callwood executes his job.

Using the opportunity to have their voices heard, a caller to the programme made it clear that he is not pleased that ‘Supa Cop’ is back. He even went as far as calling him “stupid” and “ignorant.”

“Now I don’t want to put down no one because all of us have our shortcomings, but that guy so stupid and ignorant I don’t know why they put him back in the force,” he said.

Holds up traffic unnecessarily

“Some days ago he held up the whole traffic to give a man a ticket, instead of pulling the man off! People have to go to work! A police officer is supposed to be an intelligent person and you are supposed to use your common sense. You don’t have to have a doctorate, a master’s degree to have common sense and you have certain guidelines to follow, but use your common sense,” the clearly irate caller said.

He also argued that the infamous police officer should also be able to give people a break and behave as a professional.

“You are supposed to do your job in a professional manner!”

Another caller who was in agreement said her daughter was charged with being at the front of a bus, sandwiched between the driver and another passenger for not wearing a seat belt.

“I’m calling in agreement with the gentleman that just called,” she stated.

According to her, her daughter who is a college student was on her way to town and both the driver and the other passenger had their seat belts on, but she was not aware that there was a seat belt in the middle.

“So on her way to town she was hold up by the same cop and given a ticket.”

He came back with a vengeance

“I think he came back on the force with a vengeance but he has to use better judgment,” the disturbed caller expressed, adding that her daughter had to pay a $100, and the driver was also given a ticket.

Drivers are the ones that is acting unprofessional. Traffic is held up because some drivers have attitudes. If you want to be texting while driving, not wearing your seatbelt etc...then of course you are going to get stop by any traffic cop be it here or anywhere else. Follow traffic rules and traffic will not get congested.

To the lady that said her daughter was ticketed for not wearing her seat belt, she said she was not aware that the middle seat had a seat belt. Well the driver of the car should pick up the cost of the ticket. Why, because the driver should have told her to put her seat belt on. Driver and other passenger had their seat belt on right?

@the lady who daughter got ticked. The law is the law. Everybody now bawling bout exercise judgement. You know dam well what is expected of you but yet you blatantly refuse to follow rules then you want the officer to be kind and passionate towards a few. If your daughter driver had gotten into an accident she wouldve been sueing the driver right. Didnt he just save her life? Who's to know besides God?

The driver deserved his behind to get a ticket because he put his safety first and his passenger behind. He shouldve insisted she put on the seat belt before he even drove off. as much as i hear everyone complaining about how much ticket he giving everyday, no one yet is to say that he is doing something illegal. Why dont you disgruntled, unhappy drivers call his superior and report him for his conduct then? Tell his boss to tell "Supa Cop" give you a break on the stteet when you break the law and you wilfully know you breaking it but driving down the street hoping that you dont get caught.

So what the hell does his house or children has to do with him commiting himself to his job and the oath he took? Half of you out there raping, molesting, thiefing, killing, street pharmicist and the list goes on but want an officer of the law to show a lil consideration. On your day of calling may the good lord burn your concience to repent of all your evil thoughts

I agree with most that he needs to have a lil more restraint and give breaks when he can however he needs to keep the pressure on. To much lawlessness going on here with the traffic situation, nobody cares anymore. Regarding that lady complaining about her daughter getting a ticket, if I was her I wouldn't have made an issue with that cuz as far as I am concern, Supa Cop properly just saved her daughters life. She noted that the driver and other passenger had on seat belt. He just needs to tone it down some.

The driver of the car should be the one to pay for the young lady ticket. He should have told her to put the seat belt on. Anyone who gets in my car have to put on the seat belt or you are not riding. Even my dog who ride in the car always sit in the middle seat and I always put the seat belt on him. Some people look in the car and point at the dog and laugh but, I don't care. He is a passenger to.

I guess if they see my dog at the beach with me wearing his sun glasses they will laugh at that to.Pet owners, if you love your pet and he/she is riding in the car, put the seat belt on your pet.

Mr. Callwood need to exercise better judgement by using his discretion and strive to be more professional in the way he does his job. A police offoicer is thought how to do both. As it stands he lacks both which is a black reflection on him as well as on the organisation. I think lack of training in these two areas is doing a disservice to the organisation and the public at large.

The officer was out there checking for unlicensed vehicles, pulling one off and let the rest of traffic flow. Do you know how many unlicensed vehicles going to slip through? Then when an uninsured vehicle hit you then you will claim that the police are not doing their work. As for wanting Supa Cop to give you all a break, you guys had three years break. You all heard he was coming back, you all know what he stands for, you should have got your acts together. Keep the pressure on Supa Cop.

I disagree with this thing about discretion, hence the reason why the lack of road discipline. Some of you have been getting discretion from officers for so long that you'll blatantly disobey all traffic signs and commit offences, now there is someone to uphold the law you'll talking about discretion. this is foolishness

There are many places for Supa Cop to pull over violators like: 1. The festival grounds, 2. by the street lights on both sides, 3. by the market place, 4. by youth affairs and sports, 5. by flow, 6. along side the main road on the left from Nagico till One stop, 7. By Hazems, 8. by Clovers, 9, in front Omi, and I could go on and on, so clearly there are places for him to work just as hard without impeding traffic and some discretion and common sense is needed when you are a Cop, or a Judge. I understand sometimes you got to be tough but its seems to me like the Title Supa Cop is getting to his head, I not saying he must not do his job I'm just saying have a heart Cops and Judges can give warnings too as part of their jobs. Don't get me wrong, wrong is wrong and I am not saying to be just like a warning sign, but all I am saying is do your job, people should look at Cops as someone that helps to enforce the laws and protect people, and not as a hand of final judge always being guilty. People should also own up when they are wrong and accept it and do better, instead of wanting to be wrong and strong, you claim that he is wrong for how he is going on but have you really seen yourself, because he might just be acting like you.

I have to pay the bank close to $400.00 monthly, now if I don't have all the money to pay back the loan, can I expect the bank to give me a break? Leave Callwood alone, he is doing his job. But, typical moochers on this Island, want to do wrong and be rewarded.

Welcome back to the job officer Callwood. British Virginislanders have always been law abiding citizens. That is the reason why we had a small prison in Road Town. Now we are allowing all kind or people who come among us to live dictate how we should live. This young man is doing his job. Everyone deserves a sacond chance. Do not let the ones who dislike you scare you. All this is simply because he is a Virginislander. We need more Virginislanders in the force. Who can protect your country like your own? The important thing is when Officer Callwood stop you respond with respect for the officer and the law.

I hope that the powers that be read my comment and address it. Each evening I sit on my verandah for hours, and am appalled to see the number of motor vehicles travelling to and fro on the Drake's Highway, with no back lights on. Worse still, many vehicles traverse our road with NO lights on - at night! No man is perfect and while there may be some degree of merit (without the harsh tone of the two outspoken callers), I think it is high time that law and order prevail in the BVI. We have sat down complacently for too long, accepted mediocrity, and become a people of lawlessness, where anything goes. Our traffic rules are ignored by all and sundry and this needs to stop. My Christmas Wish is that more policemen do as Mr. Callwood is bravely doing, and make our streets safe for drivers and pedestrians alike. Kudos to Callwood. You can please some of the people some of the time ... you can't please all of the people all of the time.

A forklift is not considered a vehicle; It is an industrial equiptment and one don't need to have a drivers licence to operate one in any other part of the world, and it is plain out stupid for some police to be giving out ticket while some one is just trying to unload a truck, maybe when they goes to court the judge should charge the police for being ignorant!
