ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The long road to Championship glory for the Primary Schools playing in the BVIFA/BDO School Leagues is nearly over as the Grand Finale is scheduled for this Saturday, May 31, 2014, on the A.O. Shirley Ground from 2pm.

The last couple of weeks have seen the fields in the various age groups, U7, U9 and U12, play quarter finals and then semi finals to determine who would be reaching the Championship games.

In the U7’s Althea Scatliffe will play Begrado Flax after the pair knocked out Robinson O’Neal (2-1 on penalties) and First Impressions (1-0) respectively. In the U9’s, an Azarni Callwood hat trick inspired Cedar Green to a 3-2 win over Althea Scatliffe in extra time. ASPS had raced into a 2 goal advantage before Callwood struck back to send his team through where they will meet First Impressions.

FIPS scored 3 late goals to pad out a 4-1 win against Cedar White.

The “Orange Boys” (and Girls) also reached the Final of the U12’s with a 5-1 demolition of their ASPS counterparts with Jahmal Prentice notching four goals and Guillaume Parkins the fifth.

Marcus Butler Junior pulled one back late on for ASPS, but the mountain was too high for his team to climb and FIPS will play Joyce Samuel Primary in the Final on Saturday.

JSPS had a much harder task to claim their place in the showcase event when, having thought themselves already in the final with a 2 goal cushion late on in the semi against Cornerstone, Devante Samuel fired home twice to give the team from VG a lifeline

However in extra time Giovanni Grant fired home an unstoppable volley in off the cross bar to give JSPS a 3-2 victory

The Finals day on the A.O. Shirley Ground starts at 2pm, is free to enter and refreshments will be available.

Spectators will have to sit in the stands and are not allowed onto the field itself, but will be able to witness a feast of soccer from the stars of tomorrow.

Action starts with two LIME Girl’s and Boy’s School League exhibition games between ESHS and BFEC.

This has been a great programme for all the kids - the coaches from the BVIFA and the parents and teachers from all the schools have worked so hard and the kids have had a great time.
