Bayside Blazers & Mad Mix defeated in weekend B'ball games

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The jockeying for final positions and places in the post season of the BVI Basketball Federation’s ‘Back on our Feet; Short and Sweet’ concluded over the past weekend with few surprises at the Multi Purpose Sports Complex.

In the Junior Division And One had a forfeit win against Real Tool to secure top spot in the standings and Fearless finished second after a crushing defeat of Mad Mix, 97-61.

Joimoiri Dagou doubled with 21 points and 10 rebounds as Fearless raced into a 58-23 lead by half time and never looked back. Franklyn Penn Junior also doubled with 18 points and 11 rebounds whilst Kevin Bodkin notched 16 points and Romain Minott was 3 assists shy of a triple with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists.

For Mad Mix, who finished third in the standings despite the huge loss, Glenal Layne top scored with 12 points, 10 rebounds and Neville Smith Junior finished with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Fearless also had a resounding, 116-55, victory against Spartan United with 19 points and 9 rebounds coming from Mikey S. Joseph. Dagou and Minott scored 16 a piece and Bodkin 14 as the regular season runners up ran riot.

Nikita Naval scored 22 points with 15 rebounds for Spartan United, whilst Malaki Thomas hit 16 points with 17 rebounds.

And One confirmed their top billing with a 102-89 win against the Starz led by 28 points from D’Moi Hodge and 14 from both Jachoy Walwyn and Demoi Hodge. The Starz got 26 points from Ja’Moi Dore and 24 from Kimron Telemaque.

The Starz had already claimed 4th place and a ticket to the play offs with 91-81 win over Another Level, who had to settle for 6th place after a defeat to the Spartans on Sunday.

Telemaque led the Starz with 27 points, 7 rebounds, 9 steals and 8 assists. Jamoi Dore added 18 points, Aldric Thomas notched 17, Kaomoi Bascombe 14 with 10 rebounds and Stephon Caul  11 with 24 rebounds.

For Another Level, Elvette Dore had 37 points, Tyler Cameron 15 with 10 rebounds, Malique Wattley 11 points and Terrique Wattley 10 with 10 rebounds.

The Spartans concluded the weekend’s Junior Division action with a 84-74 win over Another Level which saw them finish 5th, mainly courtesy of 21 points and 13 rebounds from Hakeem Penn. Joel Douglas added 15 points and Murthland Gordon 11.

Another Level, who finished 6th, got 22 points from Malique Wattley, a double of 15 points and 13 rebounds from Terrique Wattley  and 17 points from Clarence Frank.

There were few surprises in the Senior Division either with Legs, East, All Ah Wee and the Kings all progressing to the playoffs, which begin on Friday.

East concluded their regular season with a resounding 116-55 victory against the Bayside Blazers, led by 33 points from Radley Stevens. Killven Samuel Tripled with 30 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and Dewitt Henley Junior added 21 points in a game that was all over before half time.

Carlisle E. France scored 10 points with 8 assists for the Blazers and Terry E. S. Charles 9.

The Kings then secured their place with an 81-76 win against the Hawks, with Juan Hatchette Junior notching 28 points and 13 rebounds. Jevonne Demming added 13 and Rowan Victor 13.

The Hawks’ top performer was Ryan Alfred with 22 points and Dominic Ward finished with 21.

The final game of the weekend ended up as a walk in the park for the Legs as they settled for shooting practice against the Blazers ahead of the more important business of the playoffs.

Dione Blyden bagged 27 points with 10 rebounds as the Legs rattled up a 26 point lead by half time on their way to a 92-61 rout. Gary Hillhouse finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds, Kennedy Bass 19 and Norville Carey 18 with 14 rebounds.

Sandy E. Nadal joined in the scoring frenzy during the 4th quarter, albeit at the other end and enjoyed a personal duel with Bass as he hit 27 points to be far and away the Blazers top scorer.
